There were 14 games that were canceled before going on sale, some already finished and others still in progress. Let’s see what they were and if you would have bought any of them if they had been officially launched.
Canceled Xbox games
Although some of them were going to be exclusive to Xbox, others were planned to be released on different platforms. Be that as it may, the fact is that all of the ones you will see below did not end up hitting the market.
The complete list is as follows:
- 100 Bullets
- APB: All Points Bulletin
- The Avengers
- Brothers In Arms: Furious 4
- The Dark Knight
- Gears of War: Exile
- Lords of the Fallen
- Mortal Kombat-X
- NBA Elite 11
- Project Milo
- ProjectSpark
- Saints Row: Money Shot
- Saints Row: The Cooler
- Scarface: The World Is Yours
There are other titles that do not appear on this list, but the most famous, either due to official confirmations or because they were practically about to be released, were these.
In bold we can see 2, which were exclusive projects for Xbox 360 and that ultimately never saw the light.
The first of them, Gears of War: Exile It was a title from the Epic Games company that would continue the Gears of War saga. In this case, its launch would be exclusive on Xbox through the Kinect platform. Although this was confirmed by its developer, in 2012 the definitive cancellation was announced and it was never completed.
The other, Project Milo, was a project in development by Lionhead Studios for the Xbox 360. It initially emerged in 2001 as something confidential from the company under the alias “Dimitri.” However, it was released to the public at E3 2009 as “Project Milo”, coinciding with the launch of Kinect. The game used sensors and movement recognition, something new for the time but which was also the reason for its cancellation due to the problems and difficulties that this caused in its development.

Among other games on the list, we are surprised by titles such as NBA Elite 11, Brothers In Arms: Furious 4 or Mortal Kombat X, for being backed by important companies with experience. All of them were canceled before their release and left many wanting to try them.
These are some of those releases that were presented and never ended up selling. Imagine the number of projects that have been started and that we will never know, since if all of these did not go ahead when they were officially announced, the number of them that were never spoken must be enormous. I’m sure that among all of them there would be some very interesting ones, but we won’t see them anymore.
Not only Xbox has failures, other consoles like PlayStation or even laptops like the Nintendo Switch have seen how millions invested have never been profitable with game ideas that could not be carried out or that on paper were much more interesting than seeing their result. final. Many of them are finished, however, in order not to have a bad launch and obtain a bad reputation, they have preferred not to show them to the public.
