After this he was asked to share the OTP received on the phone and the fraudsters withdrew Rs 99,998 from his account. The Economic Offenses Wing of Mumbai Police has registered an FIR in this matter. In the last few days, there has been a spurt in the cases of fraud through SMS phishing. As mentioned above, Mumbai Police has registered more than 40 cases. Along with this, Cyber Cell and Mumbai Police have also issued advisory to make people aware. In this, people have been advised not to click on the link received in the SMS. Along with this, the police say that they have been asked to update PAN or Aadhaar card and to ignore SMS asking them to close bank account or internet bank.
Mumbai Police says that they have identified more than 300 SIM cards from which such SMS have been sent. Police say that scammers are using more than 5000 SIM cards to cheat people. Police told that this scam is being done by a gang. Your phone can also get hacked by clicking on these links sent by scammers. Along with this, if you are asked to share OTP in such a link, do not do so at all. As happened with actress Nagma.
OTP is a kind of security pin. It should not be shared with anyone. Along with this OTP should not be submitted on unofficial page. Also, do not share your banking details with anyone. Do not talk to an unknown caller related to banking or credit card for a long time. Banks never share the link on SMS with their customers to update KYC, PAN or Aadhaar card. Along with this, OTP is asked from the customers.
