A reworked design for more comfort
On the fifth generation of its Fold, Samsung is making few major changes, but is making some on the hinge and the design. We now find a hinge with a water drop system, which allows the phone to be completely closed. It’s prettier and also helps prevent unsightly dust from settling on the internal screen. It is also easier to store in a pocket, since it is thinner (13.4 mm, or 2.4 mm less than the predecessor). On the other hand, for those who expected to no longer see the fold in the center of the internal screen, this is not the case, it is still visible.
We find the same screens of 6.2 inches on the outside and 7.6 inches on the inside, both Oled and 120 Hz. The two screens are jewels: colors, brightness and even calibration, everything is good . In photos, overall, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 displays exactly the same configuration as the Galaxy Z Fold 4. We are treated to good overall sharpness and somewhat flattering color management. It is a versatile smartphone, which delivers satisfactory photos with an effective portrait mode, a night mode which goes well, and a very efficient telephoto lens (x3).
Top level performance, but with some frustrations
In terms of performance, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 integrates the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, coupled here with 12 GB of RAM. With this processor, the phone does not falter. Whether multitasking with three applications launched at the same time, or 3D games at 60 FPS, everything remains fluid and responsive. A slight heating is to be reported, but it remains contained. Everything runs under the latest version of One UI, adapted for this tablet format, which is also pleasant to use with the integrated S Pen stylus. The bugs are fewer, and the new options are very practical. The potential of the folding boat is fully unfolding and the four years of major updates allow you to sail with peace of mind.
Finally, in terms of autonomy, the Z Fold 5 has a 4,400 mAh battery. Overall, it performs well and will last the day and no more. On the other hand, there is still no fast charging on the smartphone, which remains limited to 25 W. It took 75 minutes to go from 5% to 96%. It’s a shame, especially since the charger is not provided.
