Tech News Desk – The Department of Telecom has launched the Sanchar Saathi portal only last month. This portal has been launched to track and block stolen or lost smartphones. So far more than 2.5 lakh smartphones have been traced with the help of the portal. And with the help of the portal, more than 5.4 lakh phones have been blocked. For the safety of telecom users, three improvements have been made in this portal, which helps in protecting the digital identity of the users and track or block the phone. This portal works with the help of AI. Let’s know about this portal, as well as learn how to use the portal.

Searched more than 2.5 lakh phones in a month
In the first one month of its launch, the Sanchar Saathi portal of the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) received a spate of complaints about lost and stolen phones. Out of which, with the help of the portal, smartphone users were able to block 541,428 mobile phones and trace 255,882 lost devices. This portal has been launched on 16 May.

According to estimates, the market for lost or stolen phones is around Rs 1,200 crore. There are over 50,000 lost or stolen devices a month. But with the help of the portal, a user can block the Unique Identification Number (IMEI) of a device, rendering the phone unusable, even if a new SIM card is inserted in the phone. The phone cannot be used, after which its resale value becomes zero. However, even after this the phone can be sold in the gray market. But the equipment becomes unusable and its buying and selling in the market stops.

These facilities are available on the Sanchar Saathi portal
Through this portal, the mobile user can know whether more connections have been fraudulently taken in his name or not and can also be blocked. Apart from this, in case of blocking by the original user, the system can check vice how many connections are there in his name. Also users can track and block the phone.

Follow these steps to block and track the phone
To find the phone, you have to go to the Sanchar Saathi portal.
One has to click on the option of “Block Stolen/Lost Mobile” in the phone on the portal.
Now you have to give information related to the phone. Like Model Number, Company, IMEI Number etc.
In the next section, upload the place and date of theft, police FIR number and FIR copy.
Then you have to enter your personal information, which includes Government ID number, name, email ID and mobile number.
After giving all the information CEIR will track your phone. After this, as soon as another SIM is used in your phone, its location can be traced.
