With the new range of AMD Ryzen 9000 and Ryzen AI 300 processors already on the market, the next step that users are waiting for is the launch of the new generation of graphics cards from this manufacturer, the series Radeon RX 8000 Seriesa graphic whose official release date is unknown, since, at the moment, everything seems to indicate that it is still in a very early phase of development.
And we say that it is in a very early stage of development, not because AMD has mentioned it, but thanks to the performance tests that have appeared in Geekbench. where it is listed as gfx1201.
AMD Radeon RX 8000 Series
According to the information listed on this website, this new GPU would be between the Radeon RX 7700 XT and the Radeon RX 7800 XT by having 56 CU, compared to the 54 of the RX 7700 XT and the 60 of the RX 7800 XT. This new graphics card based on Navi 48has a speed of only 2.1 GHz, which shows that at the moment this project is still in an early stage of development.
Considering that the Radeon RX 7000 has a speed of 2.5 GHz, this new model with RDNA 4 architecture will surely be able to run at a higher speed than the current RX 7000 Series. It is particularly striking that, to carry out the tests, an Intel processor was used, specifically the Core i7-12700F instead of an AMD one, alongside an ASUS board and Windows 11 Pro 24H2 which is still in beta.
The model that has been shown in the Geekbench tests shows that it is managed by 16 GB video memorymemory that if we pay attention to the rumors would be GDDR7, although other sources indicate that it will be GDDR6X, the latter being the one that has the most possibilities of being implemented but that will affect its performance despite launching a new architecture, so, at this time, it is difficult to venture to know what type of memory will be used, since it also depends on the supply line.
Long way to go
As we mentioned above, the development of AMD’s RX 8000 is still in a very early stage of development or is it only the unit that passed through Geekbench, since, otherwise, everything indicates that its launch could come much later than initially expected.
At the moment it is unknown how many models AMD plans to launch on the market of the RX 8000 Series, but we can confirm that, in addition to the version with 16 GB of memory, there will also be a model with 12 GB in order to increase the number of potential buyers.
Based on the score obtained by the gfx 1201, it offers results that put it on the same level as a Radeon RX 570a NVIDIA GTX 1060 and that the integrated graphics of Radeon 780M. If AMD’s idea is to present the RX 8000 Series during the CES 2025 which is celebrated during the first week of January, there is a lot of running to do since there are only 4 months left until the event.
