Epic Games offers a 12% store fee for payments we process and 0% for third-party payments!
In 2020, Fortnite developer Epic Games was involved in a controversy with Apple, including a lawsuit, that left it out of the Apple Store and consequently away from iPhones. This could be about to change in Europe, thanks to the Epic Games Store and other alternative stores, as ways to bring its games to more people, the company reported in its website.
After several years of not being able to play Fortnite on iPhones, Epic Games has found a way to return. The game will be available in the European Union through the AltStore. Besides, Fortnite and other Epic Games titles are coming to the Epic Games Store on Android and iOS devices in the European Union.
Fortnite returns to iOS and challenges app stores
Epic Games continues to fight for developers to have more freedom to choose where to sell their games. The company believes that app stores should compete with each other to offer better prices and conditions to developers.
This was explained in the statement:
Fortnite is coming soon to iOS in the EU, and the Epic Games Store is coming to Android worldwide and iOS in the EU, bringing all developers great deals: a 12% store fee for payments we process and 0% for third-party payments.
The battle between Epic Games and big tech companies like Apple and Google continues. Epic Games is looking for new ways to reach players and offer them better options.
…We will end distribution partnerships with mobile stores that serve as rent collectors without competing robustly and serving all developers fairly, even if those stores offer us a special deal on our own games.
However, it is not all good news. Epic Games has decided to remove its games from the Samsung app store (Samsung Galaxy Store) because Samsung has decided to block a feature that allows users to install apps from other stores. Epic Games considers this decision by Samsung to be unfair and anti-competitive.
A new opportunity for Fortnite
With the release of the iOS 17.4 update, historic new features have arrived for the iPhone operating system software. Apple introduced support for third-party stores, new default web browsing apps, cloud-based game streaming apps, and iPhone emulators, paving the way for the return of Fortnite in Europe.
