But also reactions by emoticons, and much more. But RCS is relatively new, and this rich messaging experience has actually been available for a very long time in the Apple ecosystem.
Google does it again to try to make Apple bend on the RCS
Therefore, we understand that convincing Apple to throw iMessage (which also has some exclusives like MeMojis) for a standard over which the firm no longer has control is immediately almost mission impossible.
Especially since over time iMessage has built up a positive image, which attracts new users to the iPhone ecosystem. And few iPhone users complain about the lack of RCS messaging compatibility.
It must be said that to communicate with everyone, there is not only what the manufacturer provides right out of the box. Many go through WhatsApp, Telegram or Signal to benefit from the same rich features in group chats.
Apple therefore has little interest in adopting the RCS standard. And we know from court documents that the firm has no intention of porting iMessage to Android for fear that it will negatively impact Apple.
With its new campaign, Google therefore hopes, one imagines, “to have” Apple sooner or later. But it is still far from over. For this to have any chance of working, iPhone users would have to follow, and also demand the new RCS standard from Apple. Which, given the current sophistication and popularity of iMessage, seems highly unlikely.
In one of Google’s tweets published this morning, the firm nevertheless launches: “those who have already been treated to the ‘blue bubble vs green bubble’ debates raise their hands. Texting friends shouldn’t be complicated. That’s why it’s time for Apple to #GetTheMessage (understand the message in French, editor’s note)”.
