Play Store is the Android app store and it has had a problem that has remained almost from its origins until today without a solution until Google finally decided to take action on the matter. The truth is that it was an option that was already available before, although for some reason we do not know it was eliminated to return several years later.
There was a time when the Google Play Store allowed users to download application updates that they have installed on their mobile phones simultaneousspeeding up the download process. However, it was about 10 years ago when the possibility was removed unintentionally, but it seems that Google has reconsidered, and better late than never.
Simultaneous download on Play Store
The guys at 9toGoogle have discovered that Google Play Store is once again allowing multiple updates to be downloaded at the same time. They have confirmed this after unconsciously checking that the two apps were updating at the same time, as shown in the screenshot below.
At the moment, this feature is limited to a maximum of 3 updates apps, while the rest will appear as Pending. It’s a small improvement, but you’ll notice it if you’re one of those who leaves many apps pending update. If it used to take you about 30 seconds to update two apps, now the time is practically reduced by half.
It is not known why Google decided to set a limit on app updates. We assume that It has to do with performance and configuration storage of mobile phones from many years ago, which have a very slow transfer and writing speed that was excessively detrimental to them by maintaining two processes at the same time.
This is not the first time that the American company has extended the Play Store limit. Google has already done the same when it comes to installing applications, since previously it was only possible to download one app, while the next one was put in the queue waiting for the other to finish. This changed in April, after Google itself announced that the limit of Application downloads would be reduced to 3 downloads simultaneous as well as the updates after this last modification.
My phone can’t
This is a measure that Google has not announced or provided through an update or anything like that. Everything seems to indicate that it is a feature that has been enabled and that in essence was already available for some time, it just had not been activated until now.
This explains why not everyone has access to this feature, as it would be rolling out progressively to everyone and it seems that Google phones are the first. In my case I have a Pixel 8a and at the moment I can only download or update one application at a time, so I imagine that the first to experience this new feature are the US ROM models and will later reach European models.
