Google Maps is one of the applications that I use the most. Not only does it feel like a great browser when I’m on foot (I prefer Waze in the car), but I have a ton of bookmarks and it’s one of the must-have apps for this Easter holiday.
The pins make it easier to find places, but as you moved around the map a bit, it was easy to lose it. Now, Google Maps is updated with a very useful new function: the perennial pins.
The new Google Maps pins are always in sight
The thumbtacks are very useful, but it is true that, sometimes they can drive us crazy. How many times have you pinned a place that interested you, but you started browsing the map looking for more places, touched the screen by mistake and lost your pin?
Another case is that of putting the thumbtack, starting to navigate and not knowing where you put it. The fix for that was to zoom out on the map to get a wider view, then zoom in on the pin. Fortunately, that’s over. And it is that, as you can see in the video that we leave below, with the new thumbtacks it is impossible to get lost.
This new feature of Google Maps -which has not been announced to much fanfare by Google- seems to me one of the most interesting functions that have been recently added to the browser. And it is that, once we place the thumbtack, it will move with us as if it were a radar.
It will be easy to return to it at any time, but if you click on the icon, it automatically centers the location of the pushpin so you don’t have to scroll until you reach that point.
My version of the app is 11.72.0302. It is a stable version, not beta, so if it doesn’t appear on your Google Maps, try to update manually through the Play Store. If these pins that follow you still don’t appear, maybe you should wait a few days. Sometimes these types of functions are deployed by regions or in a very staggered manner.
By the way, we have checked if the evergreen pin is found in Google Maps for iOS, but at the moment it is not like that. It will surely be updated in the future and when it has officially reached all Androids.
