Compact design and adapted software
First things first and something that has caught the attention of the Pixel Fold from the first minute is the format. It moves away from what companies like Samsung offer with the Galaxy Z Fold 4 or Xiaomi with the MIX Fold 2 to compete face to face with him OPPO Find N2.
This means that we have a folding mobile that has a large internal screen of 7.6 inchesbut in a smaller format with an external screen with a more conventional aspect ratio and, above all, easier to grasp with one hand.
Since we’re talking inside, the frames must be highlighted. The top and bottom are considerably wider than the sides, but this has a reason for being: in this way, Google marks an aspect ratio so that the applications are oriented correctly and we do not have to constantly rotate the phone.
This internal screen has a 120 Hz refresh rate, a 6:5 aspect ratio (quite square) and the panel is OLED. If we go external, we also have a 120 Hz refresh rate and an OLED panel, as well as Gorilla Glass Victus protection. Speaking of protection, the mobile has IPX8 certification, the same as the Galaxy Z Fold 4so it is resistant to water, but not dust.

The design of this screen is very reminiscent of the aforementioned OPPO foldable and promises to be very comfortable when we use the folded mobile. Something important is that the thickness in folded mode is 12 millimeters with a profile of just six millimeters when open. He is extremely thin, playing in the league of the MIX Fold 2. And, as he is obvious, he follows the design line of the Pixel 7 Pro.
Something vital in any mobile, but even more relevant in a foldable, is the software. Here there were high hopes placed on Google and, after seeing the presentation, we can say that drink from Samsung’s work with the Flex mode of its folding.
To begin with, it integrates a new taskbar with dual-screen operation with which you can easily launch apps on a split screen and that they adapt to an aspect ratio with which we are accustomed. It is, to put it briefly, as if we had two conventional cell phones attached. In fact, we can copy files from one app to another simply by dragging.
Besides, Google has adapted a good part of its applications so that they work correctly in the format of this larger screen and has worked with third-party companies, such as Netflix, to optimize their apps.
Also supports use with half-open hinge, so we can rest it on a surface to take photos or video calls, with an image in the upper half and controls in the lower half. He will take care of moving everything Tensioner G2the SoC that we have already seen in the pixel 7 and that will be accompanied by configurations of 256 and 512 GB of storage.
Pixel cameras for a foldable
When we were talking about a Google foldable, we were sure that the software would not be a problem, but neither would the cameras. Although in the first generations of folding the cameras were the weak point, little by little they have evolved and are at a very good level.

However, the Pixel Fold cameras are the best in a foldable mobile, according to Google, of course, and they aim high for both hardware and software. In addition to Google’s characteristic processing and options such as the magic eraser, we have astrophotography, ‘Real Tone’ technology to better capture skin tones and other classic Pixel photo software options.
As for the hardware, the main sensor is 48 megapixels optically stabilized (we can get selfies with him while we see ourselves on the external screen) and is accompanied by a wide angle and a telephoto with a 5X optical zoom and a 20X digital zoom.
On the external screen we will have a 9.5-megapixel f/2.2 camera and on the internal screen an 8-megapixel f/2.0 camera.
Versions, price and launch of the Google Pixel Fold

Given the characteristics of the Pixel Fold, it is time to know the price and launch details. Here we are not going to beat around the bush: the Pixel Fold will arrive in gold and black colors for a price that will start at 1,899 euros.
If it seems high to you, you should know that, at least from launch, you won’t be able to buy it. The reason? It will be available only in the UK, US, Germany and Japan.. We’ll see if they sell it in other territories later (it’s something that happened with the Pixel 6, landing in other markets months after the official launch) or if something happens like what happened with the Pixel 5.
And well, in addition to hardware, Google has reinvented Google Maps, has revolutionized Google Photos with its new Magic Editor and Bard will be smarter than ever thanks to the PaLM 2 model. It is clear that Google has thrown the rest in this event.
