Google wants all devices to be blocked while you drive

When driving on the road, you must bet on safety, and electronic devices such as our mobile phones can end up becoming the worst enemy.

Now Google has filed a new patent that would allow some electronic devices to be blocked while we are driving, providing only navigation information, reports from autoevolution.

This new technology calledsystems, devices and methods to control the operation of portable screens while driving the vehicle”, covers all kinds of products, including glasses and smart watches.

By making use of embedded sensors, various central systems can determine whether the user is driving a car.

When the vehicle starts to move, these sensors transmit this data to the system, automatically restricting access to the screen, preventing the use of certain devices until the car is stopped.

It would be something optional and there would be exceptions

There would obviously be exceptions, and yet this patent mentions smart glasses that would not be blocked, since they could end up helping drivers while driving.

These restrictions imposed by Google are completely optional in the patentand the user can avoid them, either by pressing a combination of buttons or even with a voice command.

On the other hand, thanks to voice commands, users will be allowed to interact with their devices when the screens are locked.

It is not a new approach, since we already see it in Android Auto which locks certain functions, including the keypad, when the vehicle is in motion.

And it is that distractions behind the wheel are the main causes of accidents, so preventing the user from interacting with other unnecessary elements, such as an entertainment screen, are one of the most direct solutions that ensure our safety.

the adoption of voice commands It has skyrocketed in recent years, especially with the popularization of Android Auto and apps like Google Maps.
