The feature offered quick access to Xbox Cloud Gaming, Stadia, GeForce Now, and Amazon Luna titles. It’s a fact that one element that will help drive cloud gaming adoption is making it as easy as possible to launch a game. .
To that end, Google is testing a way to start playing something with a single click from search results, even if it’s not on the company’s own Stadia platform.
The test, which was spotted by Bryant Chappel of The Nerf Report, not only allows people to launch a game directly in Stadia, but also works with Xbox Cloud Gaming, NVIDIA GeForce Now, and Amazon Luna.
If you’re enrolled in the trial and looking for a game on one of those platforms (such as Destiny 2 or Halo Infinite), you may see a Play button in the info panel.
Clicking that will launch the game or take you to a landing page on the respective streaming platform.
The folks at 9to5 Google got a glimpse of the feature in action.
The latter noted that search results can show whether a game has a timed trial on Stadia or is available for free or as part of a premium subscription.
Reviving Stadia the current objective of Google
It’s not incredibly surprising to see Google testing such functionality. For several years, it has been showing people where they can stream movies and TV shows in search results.
For example, if you have a Netflix subscription and search for Stranger Things on Google, you can start watching the show with a single click.
In hindsight, it’s a bit strange that Google didn’t offer this feature for Stadia early on to promote its cloud gaming service.
On the other hand, the Stadia store didn’t have a search feature for a year and a half, offering more evidence that the platform isn’t exactly one of Google’s top priorities.
However, Stadia isn’t shutting down and Google is slowly adding more features.
