Google’s password manager gets better
Google has decided renew your password manager to offer better protection and ease of use. Google Password Manager has been present in Chrome since 2008, but there was a difference between mobile devices and computers. That has meant that it did not have as much acceptance as they might expect.
Now they have decided to implement an experience of simplified and unified management. This means that it will be the same settings in Chrome and Android. The passwords will be grouped automatically and you will also have access from Android mobile devices in a simple way. But in addition, it also includes the possibility of generating passwords for iOS when using Chrome.
It should also be mentioned that it incorporates password verification tool improvements. It has been available since 2019 and has the mission of informing in case it detects any vulnerable key. Now it will also alert you to weak and reusing passwords on Android.
It also has a function to change the password automatically so that problems can be solved quickly. Weak password warnings are going to be extended to Chrome users in general, regardless of whether you use Android, iOS, Windows, Linux, macOS…
Another novelty is that we will be able to add new passwords to the application and not have to wait for the browser to send us a warning when we log in to ask us if we want to add it or not. With this, Google wants to attract more users to use its password manager.
Why are key managers interesting?
We can say that key managers are very useful tools today. We have to use numerous passwords to log in to all kinds of online services. If we do things well, the normal thing is that we have a different one in each case and that can be a problem to memorize them.
What key managers do is allow store all those passwords in a safe place and be able to use them when we need it. It will not be necessary to memorize anything, nor will it be necessary to expose the password every time we have to log in. It provides comfort, but also security to our accounts.
Another point to keep in mind is that some password managers will allow generate secure keys. This allows us to always have passwords that meet security requirements and avoid using passwords that may be insecure and could be easily guessed by a hacker.
In short, using password managers is something very useful and Google wanted to improve theirs to make users trust their service and use it. Of course, it is important to avoid mistakes when using password managers.
