Google’s generative AI will now be accessible directly from Google applications and services. The chatbot will be able to provide you with personalized responses based on the information displayed in the documents you create with Google applications.
Google is obviously ready to go the second with Bard. The Mountain View firm has just officially announced that it will integrate its conversational robot into all of its applications and online services. By relying on your own data, the chatbot will be able to provide you with personalized responses that perfectly match your needs. Above all, Google indicated that Bard features which were until now only available in English would now be accessible in other languages and in other countries.
Features now available in 40 languages
Google wants to put Bard everywhere. To achieve this, the Mountain View firm must extend the functionalities of its chatbot available in English to other languages. Google plans to deploy functions already existing in English in around forty languages, including French. You will now be able to submit images to Google Lens from Bard, get images in chatbot responses, or change the tone and length of chatbot responses. Google even has an option where you can share, using a public link, the conversation you just had with Bard.
Bard in all Google apps
But the biggest development brought by Google with Bard is undoubtedly the possibility of connecting the chatbot to Google applications and services with Bard extensions. The module, which is not currently only usable in English, should provide “a completely new way to interact and collaborate with Bard” explains Google. Concretely, Bard Extensions adds an access button to the chatbot in the different Google applications and services to allow you to query it. Generative AI can then rely on the information displayed in the applications you use daily (Google Docs, YouTube, Gmail, Google Maps, Google Drive, Google Flight, etc.) to provide you with personalized and contextualized responses.
To support its point, Google uses the example of planning a trip. You can ask Bard to retrieve dates from Gmail that are suitable for all participants, then search for plane tickets and hotel rooms matching those dates in Google Flight. Bard can then plan the route to the airport in Google Maps, or show you YouTube videos summarizing all the possible activities there. The chatbot will be able to provide a complete response, integrating your data, directly into the conversation.

Furthermore, for English Bard users, Google is introducing a new G button (Google it) which, when clicked, allows you to verify the answer provided by Bard. The chatbot will then read the displayed response and search online for content to support it.
Bard’s use of personal data to provide responses may, however, raise questions about their confidentiality. Google assures you that if you use the Bard extension in Workspace, your data from Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Drive will not be accessed by humans. They will also not be used by Bard to display advertisements to you or to train the AI. You can even, if you wish, disable Bard extensions in Google applications.
