As you may know, Windows licenses cost more than 100 euros if we buy them in the Microsoft store. This makes computers with this operating system more expensive than those without the license.
You should know that these computers actually have a very basic operating system called FreeDOS based on commands. This is installed because it is free and all computer equipment sold in Spain must have an operating system that allows it to be used. But then we can install whichever one we like.
Currently, Microsoft allows users to install Windows without a license. If a company wants to integrate it into a computer, they are obliged to pay for licenses, which is why FreeDOS is often chosen.
I want to install Windows, but the SSD doesn’t appear
It is possible that you start the Windows installation process and when you choose the storage drive, it does not appear. The first thing to do is to access the BIOS and verify that it detects it. If so, the problem has an easy solution.
This problem usually appears mainly on laptops with Intel CPUs. This is because not all of them have the Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IRST) driver but it is something that can be easily fixed. You must follow these steps:
- You go to another computer, whether it’s one you have at home or one that belongs to a friend, family member or acquaintance.
- Download ISRT from here, ASUS website.
- Once downloaded, double-click the executable.
- You have to press next until the “Install or extract” option appears after the license.
- We change the selected option to “Extract”.
- Click Next and it will ask you for a path where you can extract the files. You must extract them directly to the USB flash drive that you are going to use to install Windows on your computer.
- Now we click next and when the extraction is finished, we can finish.
Once you have everything ready, you can connect your USB flash drive to the system you want to format. Now you must start the usual installation process again. You will probably reach the section “Where do you want to install Windows?”, and you will see that it appears completely empty, again. This is normal and you must follow these steps:
- Without leaving this point, look under the box where the hard drives should appear for the “Load driver” option and click on it.
- It will ask you to insert an installation media containing the driver you want to install and click on “Browse”.
- Now we go into our external storage unit and click on it.
- The window should close and the storage drives on our laptop should appear.
Now, you should be able to install the operating system without any problems. As you may know, this process is very simple and you just have to continue clicking on the following link.
If this doesn’t work for you, you’ll need to go to your laptop manufacturer’s website and look for the ISRT that corresponds to it. There shouldn’t be any major problems at this point, but sometimes it may not work.
