Seven years after the launch of the current generation, the Peugeot 3008 is undergoing a major transformation and is available in a new 100% electric version called e-3008. Expected for 2024, it is distinguished by a brand new design, a more technological interior and very promising autonomy.
If the European Union is going to ban the sale of thermal cars in 2035, Peugeot wants to get ahead and plans to only offer electric models in its range five years before the deadline. A promise that should be easy to keep, as the firm is already marketing its e-208 and e-2008, while it is preparing the launch of the e-308 and e-408, but that’s not all.
A unique style
Indeed, last January, the Sochaux manufacturer revealed its roadmap for the coming years, as part of its e-Lion Day. The opportunity for the firm, which has just renewed its electric 208 and announced the arrival of the new generation of its 3008. And now the latter is finally showing itself, on the sidelines of the IAA in Munich on which Peugeot skipped this year, unlike Renault, present with its new Scénic E-Tech which we were able to discover in real life.
And the least we can say is that the electric SUV is evolving in depth, and it shows. And for good reason, the classic silhouette of the previous version is gone, since the latter is transformed into a coupe (fastbakc) like the new 408. The dimensions remain compact, with a length of 4.54 meters by 1.89 meters wide and 1.64 meters tall. Which should make maneuvering easier, while Peugeot announces a turning radius of only 10.6 meters.
Peugeot e-3008 | Autonomy | Power | Transmission | Battery |
---|---|---|---|---|
2WD | 525 km | 210 hp / 157 kW | Traction | 73 kWh |
Dual Motor | 525 km | 320 hp / 240 kW | Integral | 73 kWh |
Great autonomy | 700 km | 230 hp / 170 kW | Traction | 98 kWh |
The front of this new Peugeot e-3008 changes radically, as does the rear part with new three-claw lights, linked together by a wide black band. The roof is more inclined, offering even more dynamism to the whole. For the first time, the SUV banishes chrome in favor of gray and black touches, whilea new Ingaro Blue shade makes its arrival in the catalog. Finally, exit the brand coat of arms, replaced by the name in full.
Note that this new generation offers itself new 19 and 20 inch rims, some of which adopt an aerodynamic design. All in order to display a Cx (drag coefficient) of 0.28, compared to only 0.24 for the Tesla Model Y.
A more technological interior
On board, the presentation no longer has anything to do with the previous generation, since this new version inaugurates the all new Panoramic i-Cockpit, which had already been shown a few months earlier. The latter is distinguished above all by the arrival of a huge 21-inch curved digital panel, which brings together a digital handset in the form of a head-up display as well as a touch screen. The latter integrates the Peugeot i-Connect infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Note that the GT version also includes connected navigation and a route planner (a first for Peugeot!), while voice control “ Ok Peugeot » is renewed. It is also possible to schedule charging or stop it via the touch screen, which is particularly useful during off-peak or peak hours. The car can also be preheated in advance. Note that the seats are also heated on the e-3008 GT.
Comfort is essential aboard the electric SUV, which displays a wheelbase of 2.73 meters. The steering wheel has been redesigned with new touches and the gear selection control has been moved to the dashboard. The seats are now approved by the German AGR label (Aktion für Gesunder Rücken), while they are now equipped with adaptive lateral supports. The driver can also benefit from a Focal audio system with 10 speakers, and an induction smartphone charger and USB-C sockets.
Finally, the new Peugeot e-3008 gives pride of place to storage, since it offers no less than 34 liters in the driving position, in 17 different spaces. For its part, the trunk volume is displayed at 520 liters. The latter also accommodates a 12-volt socket and two others are accessible at the front and rear of the center console.
Great autonomy
At the start of the year, we announced some technical data on the electric SUV, which is the first from the Stellantis group to be based on the new STLA Medium platform. Designed to accommodate electric motors, the latter is distinguished by unique running gear. In total, no less than three variations will be offered, with two or four-wheel drive and a maximum power of 320 horsepower for 343 Nm of torque at the front and 166 Nm at the rear.
As with other electric models from the Franco-Italian group such as the DS 3 E-Tense, the engine is manufactured in France. This is associated with an NMC (nickel – manganese – cobalt) battery of 73 and 93 kWh, offering a range of between 525 and 700 kilometers depending on the WLTP cycle. A figure which, however, remains to be taken with a grain of salt, as we explained previously while awaiting approval. The SUV also has a heat pump, like the Kia EV6 and the Renault Mégane E-Tech.
Note that the Peugeot e-3008 uses a 400 volt architecture and not 800, while charging takes place from 20 to 80% in approximately 30 minutes. All at a power of 160 kW. The car comes standard with an 11 kW three-phase charger, which can be upgraded to 22 kW as an option. As on the Volvo EX90, the SUV is also equipped with V2G and V2L bidirectional charging, allowing electrical devices to be powered using the charging socket.
Three levels of braking regeneration are also available, but Peugeot does not specify whether the car has one-pedal driving. Note that the e-3008 is equipped with level 2 semi-autonomous driving and is full of technology with, among other things, sign recognition and active lane crossing alert.
What release date?
For the moment, we do not yet know the price of this new Peugeot e-3008, which we hope will remain below 47,000 euros to be eligible for the ecological bonus. This new generation, which will hunt on the land of the Tesla Model Y will be produced in the Sochaux factory and will begin its marketing from February 2024.
Later, an electric version of the 5008 will also be revealed.
