The next-generation HomePod, with an eight-inch touchscreen on top, will be waiting. According to Mark Gurman, Apple is still undecided and should wait until next year before presenting the renewal of its connected speaker.
For several years, rumors have suggested the arrival of a completely new type of HomePod. According to leaks, Apple intends to add a touch screen measuring up to 8 inches to its connected speaker. Equipped with a tactile surface, the speaker would transform into a hybrid device, between the iPad and the HomePod, a bit like a Google Nest. Leaks have accelerated in recent months, and the future HomePod even appeared in the latest version of tvOS, confirming Apple’s ambitions.
In this context, some informants did not hesitate to prophesy the arrival of this new HomePod during the current year. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple plans to market the smart speaker, still built around the Siri voice assistant, in the first half of 2024.

For Mark Gurman, journalist at Bloomberg and distinguished source on the Californian group’s projects, Apple would rather wait until next year. In his Sunday newsletter, the informant assures that the firm has not “made sufficient progress” on the project to anticipate an imminent launch. Apparently, Apple still hesitant about the strategy to adopt concerning products intended for home automation, which is nevertheless one of its hobby horses.
“The company has been indecisive about what to do at home for years, and I haven’t seen anything to suggest that has changed”explains Mark Gurman, who “still don’t think the product will be released this year”.
Ahead of the release of the accessory, the Cupertino giant nevertheless approached several of its “foreign suppliers”. According to the journalist, Apple notably started working on the HomePod with BYD, a Chinese company that already manufactures some of the iPads on the market. At the earliest, Tim Cook’s group should give the HomePod a facelift sometime in 2025, estimates the Bloomberg report.
Despite the integration of an eight-inch touch screen, the future HomePod should broadly follow the design of the original model. Within the accessory, the company would slip an A15 Bionic chip, which is already found in the iPhone 13. We will say more as soon as possible about the project.
