Alongside the Magic V2, Honor presented a very special folding smartphone concept. This is the V Purse, a model whose flexible external screen is reminiscent of Huawei’s Mate X. The twist? The smartphone, which looks a lot like a clutch, can be worn like a small handbag. It incorporates fasteners to install a shoulder strap. And thanks to its external screen, it adapts to the style of clothing. Presentations.
Today, Honor presented several products during its conference organized in Berlin’s IFA 2023. The most important of these products is the Magic V2, the handling of which you can find in our columns. This is the successor to the Magic Vs that we tested. And it competes directly with the Galaxy Z Fold 5 presented by Samsung at the beginning of August. In this segment, Honor therefore stands as one of Samsung’s only competitors in Europe, alongside its former parent company, Huawei.

Other products have been unveiled. THE Honor 90 Peacock Blue, with its back inspired by peacock feathers. The Honor Watch 4 which you can find the complete test in our columns. Or a very strange concept: the V Purse. It is not a finalized smartphone, but a concept that is not (yet?) intended to be marketed. The brand presents this as lines of thought around interactivity and the integration of technological products into everyday life.
The V Purse is a concept aimed at a female audience
The Honor V Purse is therefore a smartphone with strange possibilities. Technically, there is nothing extraordinary: it is “neither more nor less” than a evolution of Huawei’s Mate X, Xs and Xs 2. You therefore find the screen which covers the two external sides of the product and which unfolds to become a tablet. You also find the vertical chin which includes three photo sensors. You will find, still in the chin, a mechanical button which allows you to secure the smartphone in the closed position and to open it when you really want to deploy it.
What makes the difference between the V Purse and the Mate Xs 2 for example? There are two. The first is the system that allowshang a shoulder strap, turning the V Purse into a small handbag that you carry over your shoulder. The rhinestones and the golden covering reinforce the impression of being faced with a feminine accessory, while women are not really the preferred target of large folding smartphones. This is a rather daring positioning.
The V Purse’s outer screen can mimic the textures of handbags
The second difference is software. The V Purse screen takes advantage of wallpapers that transform the look of the smartphone. Want a synthetic down bag? No problem. And you can even stroke the bristles like real ones… Want your accessory to look like an aquarium? It’s possible. And you even have a little goldfish to play with. The goal here is to imitate the texture and materials of real handbags so that the smartphone becomes an accessory like any other. Except that it is not one, of course!
If you were looking for technical information on the product, you are going to be a little disappointed. Indeed, Honor did not wish to detail the physiological details of the V Purse, nor even the configuration from which it could benefit. We just know that the smartphone measures 9mm thick when folded. Which means it should measure less than 5mm when unfolded. Which is already a great performance.
