With the release of iOS 18.1 beta 2, Apple has apparently unlocked access to Apple Intelligence for English speakers in the European Union, a feature that was previously unavailable. Of course, here’s how to do it on your iPhone or iPad!
Apple opens a breach in Europe
Apple initially restricted access to Apple Intelligence due to its US English-only support and potential regulatory concerns related to the Digital Markets Act, which led to geo-locking within the EU. While these regulatory concerns are not resolved, EU users can now access Apple Intelligence in the beta, provided they have a US App Store ID and a compatible device. It’s no longer just for Mac users.

Compatible devices
Apple Intelligence offers a variety of features such as composing text and emails, automating actions across apps, generating images, and summarizing documents and notifications. However, these features require significant computing power on the device. Compatibility is limited to iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPads with M1 processors or newer.
The tutorial
If your device is compatible, start by installing the iOS 18.1 beta, which is currently available to developers. After setting up the beta, follow these steps on your iPhone or iPad:
- Go to Settings ➝ General ➝ Language & Region.
- Add English (US) as a language and set the region to United States (this will not affect your App Store region).
- Go back to the main Settings menu and select Apple Intelligence & Siri, then set the language to English (United States).
- Sign up for the Apple Intelligence waitlist; you should be accepted within minutes. Once accepted, turn on Apple Intelligence by tapping “Turn on Apple Intelligence.”
