How to apply, requirements and price

One of the main problems when we lose our mobile phone or it is stolen is that we lose our access to calls, etc. Beyond the data that we may have stored and that you should save in the cloud, you should know what to do with your mobile line so that your bill at the end of the month does not scare you. Or simply if you want to keep your number to be able to call or connect to the Internet. In that case, we need a new SIM and if you are an O2 customer we will explain how to request a duplicate SIM at O2, what we must take into account or what the price of this service is in the operator.

We must keep in mind that each mobile phone has a type of SIM slot and yours may have SIM or microSIM or nanoSIM but operators usually offer us a microperforated card that can be cut depending on the phone we have and that allows us to use it on any smartphone, regardless of the model chosen. We can cut it according to size and it will serve us all.

Differences between MultiSIM and SIM duplication

O2 is one of those operators that has a MultiSIM service, so it is important that we know how to differentiate one from the other. The O2 MultiSIM Service allows us to have up to three SIM cards from the same mobile line in different devices. This allows us to talk and navigate from three devices without having to change the card from one to another. All three share a number and in all three you receive calls, you receive messages… In addition, it is compatible with a traditional physical SIM card but also with eSIM cards and we can use it on a phone or a tablet but also on the Apple Watch.

All devices share a phone number and receive SMS and calls at the same time and from all of them you can access your data plan. For example, if you have a tablet that you use to travel and you want to be able to connect to the Internet from it without having to tether from your mobile phone when you need it. Also, it is available for any O2 mobile line: we can contract it from a main line, from additional lines or from mobile-only lines.

This service is not the duplicate service because we can have up to three SIMs at the same time. But we must hire him and we must pay for him every month. The contract is free. The O2 MultiSIM is contracted from the customer service number, 1551. Once it is processed, they send the SIM card or cards you need and you must contact them again to activate them. It has a price of five euros per month with VAT included and we will see it on the invoice.

What is SIM duplication?

SIM duplication does not allow us to have several cards in several devices, but what we do is request a new card that invalidates us or cancel the previous one. We do not have a new card for another device but it is a replacement. This usually happens when the mobile phone we use is lost or stolen. In that case, we must cancel the card that we have in use but we can request a duplicate so as not to lose our telephone number and be able to continue using our rate with the operator, our contracted advantages. This has a price that we must pay initially but not a monthly cost that we must pay each month, as is the case with the o2 Dual SIM service.

As we have explained, the cases in which we can request them are very varied, but the most common is that we request it because our mobile phone has been stolen or because we have lost it and we want to continue using our number and our rate, but we also want to avoid fraudulent use of it without our permission.

How to apply for a new O2 card

If we want to request a duplicate SIM we can do it by following several steps. The first and foremost thing is that you call for free at no.O2 customer service number, at 1551 so that they attend to you and you can start the process. Once you have called, the person who answers the call will ask you for all your information and your address to send the new card. The term to receive the new card is from two to five working days and you will have it at home. When you receive it, you must call 1551 again to activate it and start using it.

Normally, most operators force us to go to a physical store or establishment to carry out this process, but O2 allows us to do it without having to travel. through a phone call and receiving it at home. But you can also do it in a Movistar store. From the help website they explain that “exceptionally, if you need your SIM urgently, you can go to a Movistar store”.

Price and collection of the duplicate

Most operators charge us an amount for having a duplicate SIM card. In the case of O2 we do not have to pay anything to have a new SIM card in the operator.

In the case of going to a Movistar store, they will charge us. If you are in a hurry or need the card, we can go to a Movistar store and the amount may vary depending on the store you go to. But there is something in common: it will be automatically deducted from the bill without you having to do anything else. It will depend on the day that you have made the duplicate that is deducted in the next invoice or in the following one.

They explain from O2: “If you have made the duplicate in a store until the 9th of the month inclusive, the discount will be reflected on your next bill”. If you do it on days after the 9th of the current month, the discount is reflected in the following. As they explain from the operator: “For example, in a duplicate of June 19 you will see the discount applied to the invoice that will arrive on August 1.”

O2 is one of the operators that we will not be charged for having a duplicate SIM card so you don’t have to worry if you lose your phone and need to replace it.
