WhatsApp is present, how could it be otherwise, in all the main operating systems around the world. We have it for Android terminals, for those with iOS, for Mac and also for those with Microsoft’s operating system, the famous Windows.
Today we will focus on the Desktop version since the only one that will allow us to modify a faculty that cannot be modified in the rest. It is also true that the fact of being able to change the default camera on a mobile or a tablet does not make sense, since it has the ones it has.
But on a computer it may be more necessary, since we can have the native one (if it is a laptop), but want to use another external one that we have bought and that has higher quality.

What exactly is WhatsApp Desktop (Desktop)?
Although WhatsApp launched the web version of its messaging application, many thought that it was not very convenient to have it within the browser, since it could be confused with other websites that we had open, not being very operative.
That’s why they decided to release a version that was specifically for the computerwithout having to go through third-party applications such as browsers.
In itself, it does not change anything about the web version, except that it is a tool, it is totally independent of any other, but not of the smartphone.
In the desktop version we still depend on the smartphonethat is, we need it to be close or at least have an Internet connection to work, quite the opposite of Telegram, a great competitor of WhatsApp, which can have all active conversations, even if the phone is turned off or without network.
How do we connect to Desktop WhatsApp?
Well, exactly the same as if we did it on WhatsApp Web, except for the caveat that in this case we will have to install it on the computer, either from the application’s website or from the Windows Store.
To achieve this, you have to perform a few simple steps:
- Once installed we open it and the first thing we are going to see is a QR code with which we can link our mobile.
- Now we must go to our terminal and click on the three-dot icon at the top right and choose whatsapp web.
- At this point you will see a list of the connections you have, if you have already made any.
- We must click on the option Scan QR code (if it doesn’t go directly to you) so that the WhatsApp camera opens.
- Once opened you must point directly to the QR code that appears on the computer screen.
- This will make us see how all the conversations, groups and states of the mobile appear on the screen within WhatsApp Desktop.
From now on, the tool that we have in Windows will help us to manage WhatsApp in the same way that we would on our smartphone.
We will receive notifications when they write to us and we will be able to send videos, music, documents or make video calls, an action for which it would be convenient to know how we can change the camera, something that we are going to explain to you right now.
Change WhatsApp Desktop video options
As we have already told you in WhatsApp Desktop, we will be able to switch between the different cameras that we have on the computer, something that makes a lot of sense, since that way we can choose the one that is best.
To change this default setting to whatever we want, we need to start a call with someone. if we don’t do this, it won’t be possible to switch between cameras.
Unfortunately, we don’t have a way to do it other than within a call, something that doesn’t seem like the best way to execute it, so we think that the developers of the tool should seriously consider changing it.
Once inside the video call we must select the options menu with three dots to open a drop-down list of options. From here, we will find the different cameras that we have configured on the computeras well as audio inputs and outputs.
In itself, it is very easy to change this configuration, although the bad thing is the place that WhatsApp has chosen to grant this power. It would make more sense if it were in the settings of the tool itself and not directly in the video call.
We must also take into account that, if we change any of the camera settings, we will have to make another call so that said change takes effect, otherwise we will continue with the same camera.
Having to make a video call to change the settings doesn’t make much sense, so we assume that Meta (the parent company of WhatsApp) It will change it in the near future and we hope that it will not take too long, because it is a totally absurd place.
In addition, the fact of having to stop the video call so that we can change from one camera to another, is a complete delay and a waste of time, when we know many programs of this type where we change the camera continuously and we do not suffer these inconveniences.
It is true that most people use the WhatsApp video call on their mobile, but those who have wanted to use it on the computer may have come across this lack of foresight and position of the tool, and have decided that their visual calls from the PC they must be done by another application.
It is with this type of thing that customers are lost, although for the rest it is true that the Desktop version works very well and that it does not have any other problem, except that we could also ask that it not depend on the smartphone as it does.
