For some time now, Movistar+ Plus customers have had the option of using Netflix from the UHD decoder itself. This device, in addition to allowing us to see the contents of the teleoperator in 4K HDR, also allows us to access a number of appsincluding Netflix, Disney + and Prime Video.
The UHD deco connects to the Internet through the integrated Ethernet port, serving to view all the content available on Movistar and as a way to update the device. However, there is no native way to know how much bandwidth reaches the decoder, although there is a very simple trick that involves the Netflix app itself and that It will allow us to know how many megabytes of our contracted rate reach the deco.
Check the connection of the UHD deco from Netflix
Netflix has had a tool for quite some time to know the bandwidth that reaches the device where we are playing its content. In this way, it is very easy to know if we have a good Internet connection to play Netflix series and movies. The company recommends a minimum of 5 Mbps for 1080p content and 15 Mbps for 4K.
Well, this same tool It will also tell us what bandwidth reaches Movistar’s UHD decoder, since the app is also integrated into the deco itself. In this way, we will know if we have a good Internet connection.
To do this, all we have to do is press the button. ‘Menu’ and select the label ‘Netflix’ on the bottom. This is the easiest way to access the application from the Movistar UHD decoder. Once in the app, just enter our access credentials in Netflixeither with our own Movistar account (if we have linked the service from the rate), or with an independent Netflix account.
When we have logged in, we open the side menu and go down to where it says ‘Get help’. Once here, we go to the option of ‘Network check’ and press the central button of our remote control. After that, the app will start to check the connection, and in a few seconds it will tell us the bandwidth that reaches the decoder.
In my case, we verified that the connection that reaches me is 86.11 Mbps, very far from the symmetric gigabyte that I have contracted with the company. However, it should be mentioned that we have a big bottleneck: the UHD decoder itself. And it is that this decoder offers a port limited to 100 Mbps, so we will not be able to upload more than this figure. However, it is not something alarming, since to use this decoder we do not need a greater connection.
Of course, doing a network check from the Netflix app itself included in my Smart TV, the figure rises to 210 Mbps from WiFi. Being a connection that does not depend on port limitation, the speed is higher.
This is one more reason not to use Netflix from Movistar’s UHD decodersince through the app included in our Smart TV, HDMI dongle or TV-Box, it will look better and more bandwidth will arrive.
