Surely, in your house, your parents’ or grandparents’ house, you have seen a DVD, but you have not been able to view it because you do not have a player at hand and getting one is not an easy task these days.
Just because it’s not easy to find a DVD player on the market doesn’t mean we have to give up on its content. What is easy to find on the market are the CD and DVD recorders and readers for PC, both internal for towers and external for laptops.
However, playing DVD content on your computer is not always the best option. Fortunately, with the right tools (CD and DVD reader/writer) for PC and with an application, we can convert a DVD to MP4 format or any other video format we want.

Convert DVD to MP4
In the market we can find a large number of applications with which we can carry out this process for free and that, in addition, we can install on Windows, Linux and macOS, so this tutorial is valid for any operating system. We are talking about the VLC application, a open source application which we can download from their website through this link.
Once we have downloaded and installed the application, we run it and go to the menu Media > Open disk. Next, in Disk Selectionwe select DVD, in Disk device We select the drive where the DVD is located and in the Play button located at the bottom, we click on the down arrow and select the option Convert.
Next, a new window will appear where we must go to Profile. Here we click on the drop-down box and select the format we want to convert to. DVD conversionThe codec that takes up the least space is H.265 + MP3, if we are looking to optimize storage space.
Finally, in Destinationwe click on Explore and select the path where we want to save the conversion. Finally, click on Start and we wait for the process to finish.
The process may take more or less time depending on the length of the DVD. We can use these same steps to convert a video CD, a Blu-ray or even a music CD, although the latter is faster and easier to do with Windows Media Player, a native application for both Windows 10 and Windows 11.
