Better late than never. YouTube has started to implement the ability to generate usernames that, in some cases, will replace the name of the channel and will allow creators to be more noticed on the platform, since these will be unique. That is, there will only be one person in the world with that username.
This username, also called an identifier, will appear in the upper area of the Shorts, as well as in the URL of the channel. It will also make it easier to find the account in the search engine. YouTube, on the other hand, will not limit the creation of the user to specific accounts, as is the case, for example, with the possibility of generating your own URL.
Anyone, regardless of their number of subscribers, will be able to have one. Don’t know how they are created? We explain it to you.
How to reserve a username on YouTube
First of all, you should know that the possibility of creating a username for your YouTube channel is expanding in stages. In addition, they can only be reserved, since they will not be operational until the end of the year. If you have an account on the platform, You will have to wait for an email notifying you of this news. Or, a notification through YouTube studio as soon as you can reserve your identifier.
Once you receive the email or notification through YouTube Studio, you must click on the ‘Choose an identifier‘ that appears at the bottom. This button will redirect you to the user creation page, where you can find relevant information about its use, where it will appear and how it will differ from the name of the channel.
YouTube by default will generate a custom username taking into account the name of your channel. If you have a custom link, the platform will choose that name by adding the @ at the beginning.
If you prefer another one to the one generated by YoTube, or another one different from your URL, simply click on the text box in which the identifier created by the platform appears and modify it. YouTube allows you to use up to 30 characters and also add numbers, hyphens or periods. If the username is not in use, a green badge will be displayed on the side.
The username, remember, will appear in the Shorts, when performing a search, in the comments and mentions and in the YouTube channel link. In the latter case, the platform will allow creators to either modify their URL to the new identifier or keep their custom link.
