One of the possibilities that some of the routers that we can find on the market allow is to turn the Wi-Fi network off or on based on a schedule that we establish ourselves. Something we can do in the models installed by both Vodafone and those used by Orange, the same router, in this case the Livebox Fibra, used by Jazztel customers.
In this article we will explain what are the necessary steps to establish the hours at which we want the Wi-Fi to work or notand in this way partially improve the safety of our equipment, but also make it consume a little less electricity and therefore, in the long run, it manifests itself in savings on the electricity bill.
Before proceeding, please note that “unplugging” the Wi-Fi from the router will cause connected devices that work with the wireless network created by the router stop working from distance. As long as Wi-Fi is off, the wirelessly connected home is completely inoperative. Therefore, it is something that we must take into account before establishing any type of programming.
Program Wi-Fi on the Vodafone router
If in your case you are a Vodafone user, set the schedule for the router’s Wi-Fi to turn off or on according to a set schedule is very easy.
The first thing you should do is access your router by the method that we already know, that is, enter the address https://192.168.0.1 writing them in the browser and typing the username and password which, unless you have changed it, are the ones that appear on the bottom of the router on a sticker.
Once inside, you should look at the top bar and click on the section “Wifi”. In the window that opens, look at the left area and in the sidebar, click on “Program”. There you must activate the box titled as “Schedule function” and click on the symbol “+”.
A new window will then open with the title “Add Wi-Fi Schedule” in which you can set the days you want the schedule to work, whether they are individual days, every day, weekdays and the time you want the router’s Wi-Fi to be working. At that point it only remains to click on “Save”.
Thus the router will only work with cable during the time that the Wi-Fi is disconnected according to the schedule that we have established.
Programming an Orange/Jazztel router
If yours is an Orange or Jazztel router, to establish the programming, you must follow the steps that we saw before. The first thing is to access the router by typing its IP address in the browser. Usually https://192.168.1.1. Then, enter with the username and password that you have established, or the one that comes by default with the one that you have subsequently changed.
Once inside the router you will see different menus and sections and among them you must look for one called “Wifi”. You can change the name of the network, the type of access but what is interesting is a section titled “Wi-Fi Planner”.
Once inside the planner, first a box to deactivate in which the router appears permanently on. Also you will see a kind of dial with days and hours. You must mark, in this case with a “red” box with an “X”, the hours at which you want the router to be inactive. Once completed, you just have to click on save and in some models it may be necessary to restart the router, something that it does only automatically.
in this model minutes are not allowed, only sections for hours, but at the marked times the router will not have Wi-Fi active. It will not be necessary in this case to turn off the router.
