So you can automatically unlock your Mac just by having your Apple Watch nearby.
Apple has an ecosystem that works together and having an Apple Watch and a Mac offers us many advantages. Exists an option in macOS that allows us to log in and autofill some passwords thanks to the Apple Watch. Without having to do anything, our clock will unlock the Mac, and we are going to show you how to do it.
The security of our devices is always essential, since in them we store an important piece of our own lives. Our friendships, our work, our projects, all that and more can be compromised by unauthorized access to our computer. However, the fact that our computer is secure does not have to imply that it is also uncomfortable and slow when it comes to allowing us to access it.
If you’re wearing Apple Watch, your Mac can detect when you’re nearby and automatically sign you in.
Unlock your Mac from Apple Watch
Thanks to this function you can sign in, fill in Mac passwords and much more without having to enter the login password or identify yourself with Touch ID, simply by wearing your Apple Watch pesto you can do it.
With this feature, you can instantly access your Mac when you’re wearing your Apple Watch
To turn on this feature and have your Mac unlock when you’re wearing Apple Watch, follow these steps:
- Choose the Apple menu on your Mac.
- Go into System Preferences
- Now click on Security and privacy.
- Select “Use Apple Watch to unlock apps and your Mac” or “Allow Apple Watch to unlock your Mac.”
For everything to work you must be clear that your devices are correctly configured:
- On the Mac you must have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth activated.
- The Mac and the Apple Watch must use the same Apple ID, which will be using two-factor authentication.
- The Apple Watch must have an unlock code.
Approve other password requests
The Apple Watch can also be used to approve other requests that require the Mac’s administrator password. It works anywhere you need to enter your Mac password, for example when viewing Safari passwords.
In these cases your Apple Watch will vibrate and you must confirm with a double press on the side button that you want to fill in the password.
