All you have to do is activate a function called “Retrieve this message”.
If you are interested in knowing how recover any mail you have sent from OutlookAll you have to do is have Outlook installed on your computer and continue reading our article. Here we will explain in detail how to access the function “hidden” that will allow you to retrieve any email you have sent.
Recovering a sent email in Outlook is possible
Before we show you the respective tutorial, it is important to clarify that the same works in versions of Outlook that have been released from 2013 onwards. Likewise, if you linked your Gmail account to Outlook, you will also be able to recover any sent email, since this function can also be executed in email services outside of Microsoft.
You can retrieve any sent email, even those with attachments.
- The first step you should take is open the outlook app from your computer. Once you are inside it, you will have to access the folder called “Sent items” (where all the emails you have sent from your email address are found).
You can only recover emails if you open them completely (to access the function that will allow you to recover them).
- Make a double click on the email that sent that you want to recover.
The function that allows you to recover sent emails in Outlook is quite hidden.
- A new window will open from which you can view the email you have sent. There you will have to click on the option that says “Access more scrolling options in Outlook”which is located within the section called “Move”.
It is recommended to execute this action as quickly as possible, as time is of the essence in this case.
- Outlook will display a small menu with several options, click on the one that says “Retrieve this message”.
You can select any option to retrieve sent mail.
- A new window will appear. within it you will have to choose between these two options: “Delete unread copies of this message” either “Delete unread copies and replace them with a new message”. If you select the first option, Outlook will delete unread copies and send an email automatically to sender. On the other hand, if you select the second option, you can replace the sent email with a new one. To confirm this process, you will have to click on “Accept”.
Outlook will attempt to retrieve that sent email instantly (it usually takes no more than 10 seconds to do so).
- In seconds, Outlook will inform you that it tried to retrieve the sent mail (The aforementioned action usually takes less than 5 seconds to complete).
What does Outlook do with the recovered email?
According to what we have been able to ascertain, Outlook will delete email sent by mistake if the sender has not opened it. In other words, if that person has not yet opened the email sent by mistake, it will disappear from the sender’s inbox.
On the other hand, if that person opened the first email sent by mistake, Outlook will try to retrieve the email in question, but it won’t be able to delete it. It is for this reason that from here we recommend activating the function “Delete unread copies and replace them with a message”because in this way you can write in the subject “Urgent” to attract the attention of the sender, and prevent me from reading the first mail that was sent by mistake.
Without much more to add in this regard, we are obliged to mention that if you delete your Outlook account when recovering a sent email, this function will not have any effect (it will automatically cancel itself).
