How to see who is connected to your Wi-Fi network from the iPhone

Wi-Fi networks go far beyond walls, corridors and doors, so our home network can be easily picked up by other people who live or pass near us. If we add to this that there are more and more services that depend on this Wi-Fi network, it is important that we can be aware of who is connected to our network. Something that we can consult directly from our iPhone.

Although it is not necessary for us to check it day by day, we do it is a good habit to do it from time to time. More if we detect any irregularity with our network, such as a sudden drop in speed, finding some print on the printer that we have not done or seeing random content on our television.

A regular check is always a good idea

Although the examples we have just given are quite extreme, the truth is that if a neighbor is connected to our network well, they could have access to printers, scanners, AirPlay, etc. At best, we would simply share our bandwidth with others. At worst, you have to keep in mind that certain activities on the internet are illegal and that the network from which they are carried out is key.

With that said, let’s see how to check who is connected to our Wi-Fi network. This is something that we have to do from our routerso here we will expose the general lines, without being able to go into details of how to do it for the dozens of routers that are on the market.

We will start by opening the app Settings of our iPhone or iPad, entering Wifi and touching the small “i” next to the network to which we are connected. On the bottom we will query the IP address of router. This is the address of our router within the local network and the same address that we have to enter in Safari to connect to it. An address that is usually 192.168.1.1, but that can take other numbers.

After entering the address that we just found in the Settings app in the Safari address bar, the next thing we have to do is identify us with a username and password. If we do not know them, we can check them at the bottom of the same router, where there should be a label with that information. If we have difficulties finding this username and password, the easiest thing to do is contact the operator, provided we use their router, or the router manufacturer, if we use a third-party router.

Arrived here, the most common thing is that we have to locate a section called, “Local Network Map”, “Local Network” or something equivalent. Here we can check the devices that are connected. Depending on how many devices we have connected in our house, we may see some that we do not recognize. The best way to detect a device that should not be there is to disconnect all of ours from the internet.

By putting them in airplane mode or simply unplugging them momentarily from the power supply, we will drastically reduce the list and it will be easier for us to detect irregularities. At the same time, it is a good idea that we make a list of all the devices that can be connected at home. Let’s keep in mind that smart thermostats, thermometers, network nodes and even washing machines can appear here.

So you can access the Movistar router from your iPhone or Mac and this is what you can do with it

Although the usual thing is that we do not find anything strange, in the case of doing so, the priority is to change the password of both the Wi-Fi network and the administration of the router. Something with which the same operator can help us. In any case, a regular review of which devices are part of our network is certainly a good idea. Fortunately, the process is very simple and we can carry it out directly from our iPhone.
