The announcement of Apple Intelligence On June 10, the company laid out its privacy-based and local processing approach to AI. WWDC24 served as a starting point for developers who will be able to integrate their applications to make the system even more useful for the user.
Apple Intelligence design uses a private cloudcreated entirely by Apple and built on its Apple Silicon technology, which receives the secure request fragments from our devices in case more computing power is required. Everything else is processed on our devices. I was able to see a demo of Apple Intelligence in Cupertino after the Apple Event and it was really impressive how it works even at such an early stage.
This design may seem simple but it involves many technical conditions, which Apple must review before launching it in Europe – since it has to analyze in detail that everything complies with European legislation, which takes time. That is why Apple Intelligence will not be available in Europe at the time of iOS 18 launchneither in public nor developer betas.
How to use Apple Intelligence in Spain (or any country outside the United States)
From Applesfera we highly recommend do not install development betas unless you are a certified developer. |
A few days ago the first beta for developers of iOS 18.1 was released, the first that includes Apple Intelligence for developers start your first tests. This is a developer release and not yet a public release, so we do not recommend installing it unless you are a developer.
These developer betas also carry region locking and you still can’t use Apple Intelligence if you’re in Europe. However, this strict region lock only affects according to the DMA to iPhones and iPads.
If we have a Mac with an Apple Silicon processor, when installing macOS Sequoia 15.1 beta 1, we will see within the Settings panel the section corresponding to Apple Ingelligence and SiriHowever, it will not activate due to regional settings – the system needs to be set to the US region and the language to English (US):
- Go to Settings / Language & Region: In preferred languages, English (US) should be used as the primary language, and the region should be marked “United States”. It is not necessary to use a US Apple Account, we can continue using Spanish without any problem. It will probably ask us to restart the Mac for the changes to take effect.
- Once rebooted, we enter again – the operating system will be in English – to System Settings / Apple Intelligence & Siri and we change Siri’s language to “English (United States)”.
- When changing it, on this screen The “Join Apple Intelligence Waitlist” button will appearto join the “queue” and be given access. Do it (just press the button) and in a few hours you should receive a notification on your Mac that it is now available.
With this, developers interested in starting to test their apps with Apple Intelligence will be able to have A first contact test on Mac – although not all of Apple’s AI capabilities are yet available (Let’s remember that it is a first beta of development) and will appear in successive updates.
