Don’t want to depend on your Siri Remote to turn off your Apple TV? Today we teach you several ways, one of them through the use of timers
Apple TV is one of the most attractive devices on the market in case you are not convinced to use the default operating system of your Smart TV or in case your TV is old and does not have an operating system with apps. In my case, I have an Apple TV HD and over time it has made me value it since speed and compatibility with new apps has not been lost so far. Although those from Cupertino have already presented even another Siri Remote, the old remote control of that Apple TV continues to cover each of the current needs. However, What happens if we don’t have the remote control or we just want to turn it off without depending on it? Today We show you 3 different ways to turn off Apple TV without the official remote control by timer.
The most common use to use the sleep timer, before going to sleep
In my personal case I have the Apple TV timer set for two reasons, the first is because I alternate the use of the TV along with other equipment that provides me with a signal from national channels. In my configuration, every time I turn off Apple TV with the remote, the TV also turns off (for HDMI CEC settings). Sometimes it works for me but when I alternate it is necessary have a timer to prevent the TV from turning off.
On the other hand, before going to sleep If I am watching some streaming content and for some reason I fall asleep or simply leave a playlist, I prefer Apple TV to turn off along with the TV. For these two reasons I like to have the Apple TV configured, it is important to think about energy consumption and therefore make sure that the device turns off when it is no longer being used. Haven’t set the timer on your Apple TV yet? We are going to show you 3 different ways to do it and not depend on your Siri Remote to turn it off.
Enter the tvOS control center
- Press and hold the Home button to open the control center
- Select the sleep timer located at the bottom right after do not disturb mode
- Select the duration of your preference which can go from 15 minutes to 2 hours
Are 2 hours not enough for you and do you need more time? Let’s go to the second way to delve into the sleep timer.
Enter your Apple TV settings
- Open Settings on your home screen
- Select the option General
- In the “Activate sleep after” option, enter and select 4 hours
If you are not interested in selecting a default duration, Remember that you can access temporarily through the control center. This will prevent, for example, a short timer (5 or 15 minutes of inactivity) from turning off your Apple TV as well as your screen if the HDMI CEC functionality is configured.
There is a third way although it is not a timer but we avoid using the Siri Remote. Have you used the TV Remote app on the iPhone?
Using the Apple TV Remote app on your iPhone
The most common form of turn off Apple TV Without its official command it would be to use the iPhone. So, if you have your device at hand, do the following.
- Enter the control center of your iPhone
- Tap the app icon
- Then you must tap the power icon in the top right corner
- The control center of your Apple TV will open so you just have to confirm the decision on the trackpad from the Apple TV Remote app.
If you have a weak Wi-Fi signal or the connection is lost for a moment, you have to wait for the Apple TV to respond to the action made by the iPhone.
