If you have been using Movistar for decades, you will know that years ago it was common to rent movies or buy them at the box office, before the arrival of streaming platforms. But now it’s also an option if you want to search for titles that aren’t available yet.
how to rent
The first thing we must do to rent movies on Movistar is to log in to the service from any device. You can do it from the browser on the computer, from the Smart TV app or even on services like Fire TV, Google Chromecast with Google TV or any similar device. We will do it from the browser step by step so you can see how you can find these movies, but you can rent them from your mobile phone, tablet, browser.
As we have said before, the first thing you should do is go to your Movistar account and log in with your username and password. If you do it from the browser or from the mobile app or for Smart TV you will see that above there are a series of categories through which we can navigate to go to one type of content or another. in them, look for CINEMA.
Within the cinema category we will find several options or subcategories that we can consult as we go down or scroll. Here we will find movies included in our television package and free, others that we can only see if we upgrade to a superior package and others that we can rent. We will easily differentiate them: the first ones are shown without any type of icon or logo, the ones that we cannot see unless we expand the package will appear with a padlock in the upper right corner. Finally, the movies that we are going to rent will appear with a euro symbol in the upper corner.
Among all the categories we can go down until we find: New arrivals from movie theaters (Rental) and a button, on the right side, where it says “See all” (as you can see in the screenshot attached after this paragraph). Click on that button to open the category of movies that we can rent on Movistar+. once here, we will find sections, genres. New releases, action movies, children’s movies, comedy movies, drama movies, adventure movies, science fiction movies, suspense movies, horror movies, Spanish movies, musical movies… Next to each row of movies we also see the “See all” button and We can tap on it to check all the titles we can rent on Movistar+. Browse the categories and order as you like until you decide what you want to see.
Once you have it, tap on that movie or that title and your tab will open wide. Here we will see the name, language, duration, user rating and price. A big button in the center us will show the price together with “Rent”. By hovering over this button, without clicking, we will see the time we have to watch the movie once we start watching it: It is usually 24 or 48 hours according to the title. Click on the “Rent” button and a new information window will appear with the summary of your purchase or rental: Title, price, time available to view the content and conditions (you consent to the start of digital supply…) Click on the green button, again, to confirm.
When you already have the film you will have 24 hours or 48 hours to watch it as many times as you want. It can be stopped, rewinded, fast-forwarded or controlled like any other movie you watch on streaming or like any old DVD. In addition, you can see it as many times as you want during the time that it is available to you. The charge for the film will be added to the next bill for your television pack or even to your Movistar+ Lite that you pay month by month. Any rental charges you make will be added.
Advantages and disadvantages of renting
You may think that why are you going to rent movies when you have streaming options, but there are many advantages to doing so, although there are also drawbacks. The first advantage is that it will allow us to see first-run movies that are not yet available for streaming, recent movies that have just come out of the theater. This will allow us to have the latest releases available to watch at home.
But the drawback is obvious: we have to pay to see them, we have to add an ‘extra’ payment to the monthly subscription and we can’t see it when we want but we have an exact time in which we have to see it yes or yes, so it will condition us in case we rent it and then an unforeseen event arises.
