Huawei proposes a foldable mobile phone that turns into a ten-inch tablet
Richard Yu was recently present at an event in China about electric cars that use the company’s operating system, HarmonyOS. On this occasion, according to a report by a local media outlet, one of the attendees asked him about the tri-fold phone and when we will be able to buy it, to which Yu replied: “next month”.
Of course, this date would be the Huawei’s triple foldable launch in Chinabut not in other territories such as Europe. However, this confirms that the company is preparing to officially unveil the first commercial mobile phone with a triple-fold format, a type of innovation that until now we have only seen in prototypes at technology fairs such as CES, IFA and MWC, but not in a product available for sale.
Based on rumors and photos of Huawei’s CEO using what appears to be the tri-fold phone, it is expected that this device will have a 10-inch internal display, which would allow use it as a full-size tablet when it is “open”. Also, in the photos it doesn’t appear to be too thick when closed or folded.
However, since this is the first generation of a new type of device, with innovative technology, the Huawei triple-fold is expected to be expensive. Rumors indicate that it could cost up to $4,000 during its launch.
Huawei has become the market leader in foldable phones in China with its Huawei Mate X series, with a 257% year-on-year growth during the last quarter, and with this new device it could attract the interest of even more users who, until now, have not ventured to try phones with foldable screens.
