Huawei has just presented its new generation of watches in the beautiful city of Barcelona and, although it has been difficult for us to be so quiet, the truth is that we have been here for several weeks now testing the qualities of the recently unveiled Watch GT 4. Today we are going to tell you everything you need to know about the firm’s smartwatch. Be comfortable.
Huawei Watch GT 4, a step forward
It seems incredible but we have to go back to 2015 to find the first smartwatch with circular format within the Huawei catalog. The Asian company soon saw that this design could have just the right pull among the public that was looking for something as close as possible to the traditional clock and since then it has been working in a family of equipment with a fantastic reception and that generation after generation has been able to adjust and improve its performance.
With the Watch GT 4 they are by no means an exception. The new watch comes to offer us an approach that in certain cases continues with the GT 3 family, but also where we find interesting news in order to improve some of its most outstanding functions.
In the case at hand, we have been testing the 41 mm model in a Silver version with a stainless steel strap and link design that is delightful. And to say that the watch is beautiful is an understatement, very understatement. The GT 4 has a quite delicate design and premium which surprised me quite a bit as soon as I took it out of the box. It really looks like one of the usual watches (and expensive ones, hey) when you wear it on your wrist. His thickness has also decreased Compared to previous generations, standing at 9.8 mm and thus helping to make it more comfortable than ever to wear – I think it has always been one of the biggest Achilles heels of the Huawei range. Be careful, it is still heavier than the 41mm Apple Watch Series 8 -comparisons are hateful but necessary-, although it is progressing adequately.
As for its performance, you will be able to have few complaints. In my case, I synchronized the watch with an iPhone – in order to set things a little more difficult and banish the mistrust of some – and the communication between phone and smartwatch has been perfect to snapshot at all times.
From the Health app You have access to all the device configuration, as well as the customization of spheres – you will need several lives to try them all, I warn you – and many other options, in addition to being the base center to consult the data of everything that the watch is recording for you. Because of course, this device is not only used to see the time and receive notifications and calls from your smartphone (including third-party apps); It is also an interesting partner for physical activitybeing one of the aspects that Huawei wanted to improve on this occasion.
The GT4, which enjoys IP68 certification, thus comes with more than 100 sports modes (you now even have paddle tennis) and the possibility of daily monitoring our health and movement, recording all the usual parameters with some Activity Rings in which you will always see your progress very visual. These are three rings (calories burned, duration of exercise and activity while standing) that try to motivate you to complete them with a medal system that rewards you. As for his GPS Plus it’s now more exactly than ever (30% which is said to be early), which helps to establish better positioning at all times.
We also have improvements in other important meters such as the heart rate (again 30%), especially when doing impact activities – although I must say that I have always found it quite accurate in this aspect in previous watches from the brand -, or sleep, where you will have better information about your cycles and especially (here comes the interesting part) about respiratory irregularities that you can present while you rest.
Something that I really liked is that the people at Huawei have also decided to include improvements in the menstrual cycle calendar for monitoring the female intimate health. This means that it now takes into account certain physiological indicators, such as heart rate during sleep, body temperature or respiratory rate, to predict the start of a menstrual period and notify you of it. I have not been able to try it personally, but I find it a very interesting function and I appreciate that the Asian firm has in mind something so important for a sector as broad as that of women.
And how about the autonomy? Well, pretty good. Huawei had already done a good job in that sense with the GT 3 and with this new generation it seems to have followed the same path. The firm’s estimates are 14 days for the 46 mm model and 7 days for the 41 mm model – this is 20% more than in the aforementioned GT 3. In this specific case, with the equipment that I have tested, I have reached the promised 7 days with an average use of the watch, where I have always had heart monitoring active and with which I have practiced moderate sports.
This good performance together with a simple and easy-to-use interface and a fantastic screen AMOLED of 1.32″ (of which I have not mentioned anything, but which looks incredibly good in broad daylight and boasts a very good brightness) undoubtedly make this new GT 4 an interesting option on the market.
