Social Media News Desk !!! Concerns have risen for the Mark Zuckerberg-led Facebook. The share of adolescents using this social media platform has come down from 71 per cent in 2014-15 to 32 per cent now. This is according to a new survey of American teens (ages 13 to 17) by the Pew Research Center. Chinese short-form video platform TikTok has grown tremendously in popularity and is now a top social media platform for teens, among Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat. About 67 percent of teens say they use TikTok, with 16 percent of all teens saying they use it consistently. Google-owned YouTube is at the top for teenagers in 2022. 95 percent of teens use it. After this comes the number of Tiktok and then Instagram and Snapchat. About six out of 10 teens use it. A Pew Research Center survey found that Facebook has a much smaller share with 32 percent, followed by Twitter, Twitch, WhatsApp, Reddit and Tumblr. This is one of the biggest reasons why Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has put his energy into making his platform more like TikTok and Instagram reels now with a higher annual revenue run rate for ads than Facebook/Instagram Stories at the same time. (1 billion dollars). The study also explored where teens are on each of the top five online platforms (YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook). The survey showed, a whopping 35 percent of teens say they’re using at least one of them almost constantly. Teen TikTok and Snapchat users are particularly attached to these platforms, followed by teens on YouTube.
A quarter of teens in the US who use Snapchat or TikTok say they use these apps almost constantly, and a fifth of teen YouTube users say the same. When viewed by teens overall, 19 percent say they use YouTube almost constantly, 16 percent say about TikTok and 15 percent say Snapchat. Since 2014-15, there has been a 22 percent increase in the share of adolescents who report access to smartphones (95 percent now and 73 percent then).
