It seems that the golden age of streaming has already passed: I still remember when Netflix surprised us with totally groundbreaking movies and series. Yes, in those moments when he almost had no rival. However, the industry has advanced to the point of collapsing the offer with various services that do nothing more than segment the content.
Well, in addition to further dividing the available options, there is another sum that aggravates a thought I have had for a long time: increasingly, my checking account suffers the consequences of being subscribed to all platforms. Just because, I have been collecting them as if they were trading cards and there is one that I have already dispensed with despite its low cost. My SkyShowtime account has expired, and will continue to do so for a long time.
A difficult decision to make because of the initial offer
When SkyShowtime saw the light and arrived in Spain, its launch offer won over my firm will: for 2.99 euros per month, did not represent a significant expense, barely perceptible. The reality is that yes, everything adds up, and adding one more when I’m already paying for Netflix, Prime Video, HBO Max and a few others, is too much.
However, before canceling my SkyShowtime account, the following thought was in my mind: “subscribe from any other account, this one is very cheap.” But the truth is that More than the price I value the contents. And in this sense, at least for me, the one I consume the most is Netflix.
My objective is minimize expenses on streaming platforms, especially those that I use the least. Motivated by the need to rationalize my expenses, I decided it was time to implement the plan I had in my head: progressively reduce active subscriptions.
SkyShowtime, despite its attractive and attractive price of just 3 euros, has been the first victim of this strategy. Now there is no turning back, I will not be able to access the succulent offer again.
My reasons for canceling SkyShowtime subscription
As you can imagine, apart from reducing the money I spend on streaming platforms, I have other reasons for canceling subscriptions. Not everything is about money, obviously, and it is that it is unnecessary to have something you don’t use: This was the main reason, the use and enjoyment of the content they offer.
The SkyShowtime catalog is not bad at all, in fact, in the first weeks I enjoyed it the most. However, the publication rate is not as high as in others and the series and movies that I now find do not attract me enough to justify maintaining the subscription.
In the end, with so much offer, I have decided to prioritize other platforms. Netflix is a fixture for me and will continue to be: I see most of the content that I like the most on it. I can say, without fear of being wrong, that the catalog of the most popular streaming platform It is the one that best suits my personal preferences.
Finally, and back to money, SkyShowtime savings are not enough per sehence others will end up succumbing to this Machiavellian plan. I have been able to free up a small margin, but just as they added, now they will subtract, allowing me to allocate that economic amount to other activities, or to the next platform that catches my attention (I will try not to).
Some advice if you are in the same situation
I want to think that I am not alone. And if you have come this far it is perhaps because you have similar ideas. Well, if you want to lighten the financial burden of collecting streaming platforms, I give you some advice:
- Evaluate consumption: analyze which ones you use most frequently and what type of content you consume. It will give you clues, like it did for me, What services can you do without?.
- Prioritize your needs: choose the platforms that suit your preferences and of course, your budget.
- Take advantage of offers and promotions: look for discounts and make the most of the free trial periods. This way, you will avoid paying for a subscription that you may not use.
- Ultimately, don’t hesitate, cancel subscriptions you don’t use: I was afraid of losing the SkyShowtime offer, but now I appreciate that ‘plus’ I have every month. And that will be even greater as I extend my plan.
In short, it is advisable to be aware of our consumption habits, and thus make responsible decisions to continue enjoying everything that streaming platforms offer us. Of course, without greatly affecting our pocket, as was beginning to happen to me. Now, I will not fall into the same mistake again, or maybe I will, because you know what they say: “Man is the only animal that stumbles twice over the same stone.”
