I will not deny it: Apple Vision Pro are very expensive. 3,499 dollars, which will surely be more than 4,000 euros in Spain once Apple confirms it next year, It is somewhat prohibitive in the current economic context. Very few people will be able to afford it, and those people have to start saving today.
But although we can say that it is one of the most expensive products ever launched by Apple, a trip back in time makes it clear that the price is not as exaggerated as you think. There are other Apple devices that were launched at prices that would also qualify as abusive right now.
The Mac era began with even worse prices
The best example is the original Macintosh, a computer that Steve Jobs introduced in 1984. It was revolutionary in its day, but few remember that it launched for $2,495. Yes, it is more or less what a Mac of a certain power costs right now, but be careful that you have to take inflation into account since then.
If we adjust that $2,495 for inflation from 1984 to today, that price exceeds $7,200. We have the equivalence in that both products wanted to open a new market, and remember that Apple defines the Vision Pro as a computer.
I insist: it is not to say that the Vision Pro are not expensive, because they are. A lot. But at the same time, we are talking about a completely new technology for Apple, that uses components never seen before and that break established limits, and that has to start at some point even if it is with a very high price. The passing of the years will tell.
