Last January, Movistar confirmed that it had already begun to deploy internet protocol version 6 (IPv6) on your mobile network. With this, their customers could more quickly access native IPv6 content that companies such as Google, Microsoft or Facebook have been offering for a long time.

Now, the Spanish operator has decided to also activate the new IPv6 protocol on your fixed broadband network. To do this, he has started a pilot project with employees and is looking for clients who voluntarily want to collaborate. Do you want to sign up for the beta? We explain how to do it.

Sign up for the beta to test IPv6

As reported by Banda Ancha, Movistar has begun to send an email to its fiber customers to invite them to try the IPv6 protocol on the fixed network. In this email, the operator ensures that all its users will soon have IPv4 and IPv6 browsing, and offers the possibility of sign up for the beta to be one of the first to test the new protocol.

The requirement to participate in the pilot test is to have a fiber optic connection and register on the website enabled for this purpose. On this website, the operator says that the objective of the beta is to check if any communication that works correctly in IPv4 has problems after activating IPv6.

The beta consists of activate the IPv6 protocol in the ADSL/FTTH connection so that communications can be established on the Internet with destinations that use this protocol. With those destinations that do not have support for IPv6, they will use IPv4, as before. you don’t have to change equipment or configure anything.

The places are limited and almost 1,500 users have already registered, so if you are interested in trying it, sign up as soon as possible. To do this, follow these steps:

  • Create an account in the Movistar Beta Zone by filling out this form.
  • Complete your profile data. Most are optional, but for this pilot test it is essential to provide your landline number.
  • Once registered, log in and access the fixed broadband IPv6 beta.
  • Press the green ‘Participate’ button.

From that moment, your request to participate will be registered to be evaluated. If it is approved, Movistar will automatically activate the IPv6 protocol. To check if you already have IPv6, just connect to a test like https://ipv6-test.com/ or https://ipv6test.google.com/. You can unsubscribe from the pilot test at any time.
