The wait for a foldable iPhone from Apple is generating great interest and speculation in the world of technology. While Samsung and other big brands have been moving forward with their own versions of foldable smartphones, Apple has maintained a more discreet profile in this segment, without yet launching its own folding device on the market.
However, rumors and leaks continue to fuel everyone’s expectations and even more so when it was believed that Cupertino had stopped its development due to durability and design problems.
Although Apple is known for its secrecy around products in development, leaks and internal reports suggest that the company could be reconsidering fully entering the foldable mobile market and more details are gradually coming to light.
Now it has been known, through the Korean website Alpha Economy that Apple would have decided – at the moment they are rumors – that the release date of the foldable iPhone is September 2026. This means that the foldable device could debut alongside the iPhone 18 range, but after the Galaxy Z Fold 8, that is, in August.
Tim Cook and other Apple executives avoid questions about a possible foldable iPhone
The Information has explained that Apple has developed two foldable iPhone prototypes with a clamshell design that folds widthwise. The devices are in early development, but Apple has approached at least one supplier in Asia for components related to two foldable iPhone models in different sizes.
It suggests that the company aims to make a foldable that is “as thin as current iPhone models”but is reportedly facing issues as components like the battery and display increase the thickness of the device.
Additionally, a brand patent granted in March talks about a unique feature in a foldable iPhone, explaining a system that would allow two or more devices to act as one when brought together each other through the use of proximity sensors.
In the end, technology advances and if we talk about 2026, expectations are very high, great advances are expected and the rest of the brands are not going to sit idly by.
There is no doubt that Apple has a clear incentive to continue leading the way in terms of innovation and design. A foldable iPhone could be the next big step in the company’s evolution, although it seems like there is still a long time to go before it sees the light.
