Instagram is really tiring me lately. I almost never log into the app anymore and I get a lot of direct messages. It hasn’t had anything to offer me unlike other social networks for a long time and at the same time I think that The platform needs to be renewed or will end up dying sooner or later.
I have X and TikTok installed on my phone and with them I don’t need anything else. From time to time I go to Instagram out of sheer boredom and then leave after checking out a couple of stories and posts. I think Meta is a bit desperate with its platform right now, proof of which is the birth of Threads to compete with Twitter head to head, a move that hasn’t worked out too well for it.
This is integrated with Instagram, which is supposedly considered an advantage, but it doesn’t even help me to use the other app. Meta is introducing New things on Instagram that aren’t useful or they go unnoticed, which predicts their end within the medium to long term.
Instagram needs urgent improvements
All apps need to evolve and get new features in the form of updates. This is done in order to not be left behind while staying trendy, as it is a constant competition between the main social networks. Instagram is no exception, although the latest features of the app have not completely satisfied me. I have a series of advice on things to improve on Instagram and Meta should take note if they want to become the leading smartphone platform again:
- Feed customization: You’ve probably logged into Instagram at some point and you’re not interested in the stories that some of your followers have posted, nor in their posts. Instagram should learn from Twitter when it comes to managing and personalizing the content that is displayed in order to show the user interesting content.
- Reels are not enough: These videos were created to fight against TikTok’s competition, and although they do their job, they are not enough. TikTok has its own story, editing app, a much more advanced algorithm to adjust the user’s favorite content… But Instagram Reels are often not relevant to the user and their tastes.
- Threads don’t matter: The truth is that Threads has been a little uneventful in the social media world. It has brought together many users, although the reality is that Twitter or X are still ahead. Integrating it into Instagram seemed like a good idea, but it still hasn’t been successful and sometimes you end up redirected to the other app by mistake.
- The Explore function is too cluttering: Instagram and its algorithms need to be more selective. It can’t be that I do a specific search for video games or movies and it automatically appears that I only have 2 tastes based on the results of the tab. The application needs to improve its algorithm to show more diverse and less centralized information.
These are the 4 main improvements that Instagram must introduce or it will end up relegated to ostracism as just one window to the world of influencersThey may seem like insignificant changes, but I’m sure many people think like me and are slowly seeing how Instagram is losing dominance compared to other platforms.
