Instagram has announced a new feature that allows users to add a song to their profile, an update reminiscent of a certain Myspace.
For those who didn’t know it in its original form, Myspace was a very popular social network in the 2000s, before the emergence of Facebook. Myspace allowed users to create personalized profiles, connect with friends, share photos, blogs and music. This social network notably played an important role in the promotion of independent music, allowing artists to share their tracks and gain exposure.
Instagram steals MySpace feature
Music added by a user appears in the profile bio area. Unlike Myspace, songs are not automatically played when someone visits a profile. You have to start playing the song – or rather a snippet of the song, since the music is limited to 30 seconds.
Instagram posted a message about its creator account via Threads :
We’re excited to announce that you can now add a song to your profile, giving you more ways to express yourself through music. Your profile song selection will remain active until you replace it.
This new feature is launched in collaboration with the singer Sabrina Carpenterwhose profile features a teaser of his new song, “Taste,” ahead of its official release later this week.
How does it work?
- Select “Edit Profile” in your Profile tab, then tap “Add Music to Your Profile”
- Search for your favorite song or browse our “For You” section
- Select the song you want to use and choose the clip length for your profile.
As you can see, Instagram is doing everything it can to attract fans of TikTok, which has been focusing on music for a while.
