Since Apple abandoned Intel processors in its Macs in favor of its own chips house, Intel keeps attacking its former partner in every way imaginable. The latest idea is to compare the speed of the M1 Max chip against the Core i9-12900HK processor. Intel wants to show the world that it is not Apple that offers the most powerful chip!
Intel strikes back against Apple
Obviously, Intel has still not succeeded in evacuating the frustration for losing a juicy contract with Apple to supply Macs with processors. The company continues its marketing campaigns of mockery, but also the comparisons as with the last generation of chip present in the MacBook Pro 2021.
When presenting new 12th generation Core processors, Intel did not hesitate to tell reporters that its latest processor sprayed performance of the M1 chip Max.
To go into detail, Intel explained that its processor offers 14 hearts which is divided into:
- 8 efficiency cores
- 6 performance cores
These features effectively surpass Apple’s M1 Max chip which only offers 10 hearts (8 performance cores and 2 efficiency cores).
To prove the superiority of its latest Core i9 processor, Intel also said that its chip has a frequency Maximum Turbo Boost 5.0 GHz.
Because an image is sometimes better to appeal to consumers, Intel shared a performance graph to compare its new Intel Core i9-12900HK processor against the competition. In second position we find the M1 Max chip, in third position the Intel Core i9 11980HK and last the Ryzen 95900HX processor.
An Intel spokesperson explained:
The data from Specrate 2017 integer n-copy is a good benchmark that we use to assess the client’s multithreaded performance. Our data indicates that the Core i9-12900HK is faster in performance per watt than the M1 Max processor in this test.
If Intel offers a more efficient processor, the company has not succeeded in doing better on energy efficiency.
Indeed, the latest generation Intel Core i9 is faster and more powerful, but tends to consume more energy and generate high heat inside a PC. On this point, Apple keep the advantage, because engineers have succeeded in developing a chip that heats up without going overboard. It is for this reason that Apple mentions on its site that for a large number of daily activities, fans born almost never activate.
The new Intel Core i9-12900HK chip will be launched during this year, it should be present in the first high-end laptops around the start of the school year 2022. For the moment, the company has not communicated an availability date.
