The iOS 18 home screen arrives loaded with new features and improvements that enhance customization
If you make some versions of iOS Apple decided to completely renew the iPhone lock screen, with the arrival of iOS 18 the revolution comes to the home screen. For years this grid of applications has barely changed but now the customization possibilities are quite difficult to believe, who would have told us a while ago that this would be possible on the iPhone.
The customization options offered by iOS 18 make it each user can have a completely unique home screen. Something that could more or less be done by changing the icons of the iPhone apps, but is now much faster and easier.
Place icons wherever we want on the iPhone
From iPhone OS 1 to iOS 17, iPhone icons have always been organized from left to right and top to bottom. That is, if you only had one icon, it would be located in the upper left corner. If you had four icons, they were placed in the top row.
But starting with iOS 18, users can place icons anywhere on the screen leaving empty spaces between them. As long as they are within the four column by 6 row grid. Now you can move the icon as always and place it wherever you like.
Resize widgets easily
The iOS 18 widgets can be redesigned directly from the home screen without us having to enter them to edit them and play in a new size. This makes resizing much quicker and easier, the bottom right corner is slightly thicker so we can drag it around and edit the size.
You can now easily resize widgets by sliding a tab that appears just below on the right. Much more comfortable than before pic.twitter.com/7cB2IZNmWq

We also have an option by holding down the widget that will transform it into the icon of its corresponding appthis works with some Apple apps like Clock or Weather.
Use larger icons without the name on the iPhone
This customization option allows us to have slightly larger icons that also eliminate the name of the app or game. This gives the iPhone home screen a very different look than we’ve ever had before. You have never been able to do something like this on the iPhone before.
Change the color of iPhone apps
Finally, we have the option to customize the color of the iPhone home screen icons. We have the option of put them in dark colorwhich can be activated alone, or the option dye them the color we like the mostwhich can match our wallpaper.
- Press and hold the iPhone home screen.
- Tap on the top left on Edit > Customize.
- Select the Tinted option.
- Choose the color and intensity in the bars below.
- If you touch the icon in the right area you can choose one of the wallpaper colors.
The customization of the home screen icons is quite aggressive, something that can end up with real aberrations on the part of users. But those who complained about customization will no longer be able to do so pic.twitter.com/Wvl4gpgi6J

Apple has completely renewed the home screen in iOS 18 and there are many new functions that it has made available to users. Features with which you can design completely unique user interfaces. It is true that this can make “an iPhone stop looking like an iPhone”, but it is the users’ freedom to do so.
