If you’re waiting for iOS 18 and have an iPhone that’s compatible with the update, we have great news: there’s less and less time left for you to update. For now, you have the public betas, which go almost hand in hand with the developer ones. The last one to be released has been the latter, being the first one to be released. iOS 18 beta 7 for developers.
This is an update aimed at all Apple developers who already had the profile installed, and it will be found as another update within the settings. For now, no major new features have been found, but an expert predicts that It could be the last beta before the final launch in September.
At Applesfera we strongly recommend that you do not install the iOS 18 beta unless you are a certified developer. The public beta has been available since last July. |
iOS 18 beta 7 “advances” the final release of the update
As we said at the beginning, there are no significant new features in the seventh beta for iOS 18 developers, which is not at all strange if we take into account that several changes have already been introduced in the six previous betas and that they have also ended up reaching the public betas.
This lack of new features is also due to the fact that the next major changes will arrive with iOS 18.1, a version expected in October that is also in beta for developers. It is precisely in this version that Apple Intelligence will arrive, although for now only in US English.
However, Mark Gurman, who is one of the top Apple experts and has sources inside the company, affirms that This beta is “the final one”. Therefore, it is understood that the following will be the so-called ‘RC’, the acronym for ‘Release Candidate’. To help you understand, these would be the differences:
- Developer Beta: These are beta versions intended solely for developers to test their applications with the new tools provided by Apple and report errors. Several versions are usually released before the final ‘RC’ version is reached.
- Public beta version: These are betas aimed at the general public who want to try out the new features of the next iPhone update. These versions are initially more bug-free than the developer versions, although in the end they end up being on par in terms of development. It is also a good idea to report bugs to Apple from these betas.
- ‘RC’ version: These are “release candidate” versions. That is, they are the same versions as the final ones, even though developers and public beta testers receive them before and do not have to update when the final version arrives. Of course, there are some exceptions and sometimes we see up to two ‘RC’ versions and it may even be that the version that Apple finally releases is different and they have to update.
- Final version: This is the final version that is now being released to the general public without the need to be a developer or beta tester.
Dates when iOS 18 could arrive for everyone
Based on the above, and if Gurman’s information is correct, all that remains is for Apple to launch the public beta equivalent to the seventh for developers (which will happen this week) and then the RCs for both cases would be released. And after that, the final launch.
Only Apple knows its own calendar, but it is not difficult to theorize about the dates. And even more so knowing that It will be related to the new iPhones and the September event. Here’s how things could turn out:
- Week of August 26: iPhone 16 event confirmation.
- Week of September 2: iOS 18 RC release.
- Week of September 9: celebration of the Apple Event and final launch of iOS 18.
As far as more exact dates are concerned, Everything points to the event being held on Tuesday, September 10 and it is possible that iOS 18 could be released after the celebration.
Now, There is a somewhat more convoluted theory and that is that Apple releases at least two RC versions of iOS 18 to developers and public beta testers. The first, in the week of September 2 and without revealing any new features of the new iPhones in its code, then another RC after the event and without fear of its own software leaking anything. This would imply that the final launch will take place in the week of September 16, which will also be the same week that the new devices are launched on the market.
