Apple iPhone 14 Pro MAX (128GB) – Space Black
- Screen: The Huawei Mate 50 Pro has a large 6.74-inch OLED screen with Full HD+ resolution at 120 Hz. Not an LTPO panel like the one on the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The edges are curved, and Xataka’s teammates experienced some phantom pulsations due to being quite sensitive. The iPhone panel is compatible with Dolby Vision and HDR10, in addition to reaching a maximum brightness of 2000 nits at specific moments.
- Processor, RAM and storage: Apple uses its best chip in the iPhone 14 Pro Max, the A16 Bionic, one of the best on the market for its power and efficiency, which together with the 6 GB of RAM memory runs both iOS 16 and any app from the App Store without problem . There are storage options ranging from 128 GB up to 1 TB. On the part of Huawei, it has the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, another of the best chips in the sector, along with 8 GB of RAM and 256 or 512 GB of storage. Although the specifications of both terminals are very good, Apple’s refinement with the hardware-software combo is unbeatable.
- OS: iOS 16 and HarmonyOS 3.0. Huawei’s development is based on Android AOSP, but without Google services because they cannot implement them. Instead, it has its own apps, ranging from a store to a map navigator. iOS 16 offers a much broader and more elaborate catalog of applicationsbut Huawei is committed to improving this.
- connectivity: by now all smartphones above a certain price should be compatible with 5G networks, but the Huawei Mate 50 Pro does not have 5G and it is due to one of its limitations by the restrictions. For the rest, they share Wi-Fi 6, dual-frequency GPS, NFC, and the Huawei has USB-C while the iPhone 14 Pro Max maintains Lightning.
- cameras: while Apple is the rival to beat when it comes to video recording, when it comes to stills there are other options just as good (or better), and The Huawei Mate 50 Pro is one of the leading Android phones in this section. It comes with a triple rear camera, whose main sensor is 50 MP, the telephoto lens is 64 MP, and the ultra-wide angle is 13 MP. Apple has included a new 48 MP main camera in its iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max.
- Battery: another of the strengths of the Apple smartphone is autonomy, since reaches up to 29 hours playing video, which means that with normal use it can easily reach two days (and something more) without going through the charger. Xataka’s colleagues comment that its 4700 mAh battery (somewhat fair for its 6.7-inch screen) guarantees about seven hours of screen use. The good thing is that, if needed, you can use the 66W fast charge to get the device fully charged in just 41 minutes.
- Price: and we finish with the price. They are not cheap phones; the iPhone 14 Pro Max starts at 1,469 euros and the Huawei Mate 50 Pro starts at 1,199 euros.
iPhone 14 Pro Max VS Huawei Mate 50 Pro, which one to buy?

It’s hard to recommend the Huawei Mate 50 Pro over the iPhone 14 Pro Max when there are several points that are decisive (taking into account the price of the phone):
- It does not have 5G connectivity (something to take into account if you want to put up with your mobile for many years).
- The Huawei Gallery app store has yet to improve. It needs more support from major developers so that the Play Store is not missed, leading to…
- No Google services. If you’re used to YouTube, Gmail, Google Drive, Google Maps and other Google apps, it’s hard to nip in the bud and get used to alternatives. It is possible to access many of the services through the web browser, but the experience is not the same.
- Curved screen that is not LTPO and with a considerable notch.
If these are not factors that concern the user, the Huawei Mate 50 Pro is a very interesting phone. However, users of the Apple ecosystem will see more benefits using the iPhone 14 Pro Maxplus they may be more comfortable with iOS than with HarmonyOS 3.0.
