After learning that Apple’s new phones are capable of charging at 25 Watts wirelessly via MagSafe, a recent certification from the China Quality Certification Center, a regulatory body in China, lets us know that all iPhone 16 models support wired fast charging up to 45W via the USB-C port.
An unofficial novelty
As reported ShrimpApplePro On the X, the certification states that all iPhone 16 models were tested with voltages of 5 to 15 volts and currents of 3 amps, allowing for charging power of up to 45 watts. This represents an increase of more than 50% compared to the iPhone 15 models, which reached around 27 watts, as has been the case since the iPhone 13 Pro.
THIS IS A VERY GOOD NEWS
All the iPhone 16 series has up to 45W wired charging! According to the CQC pic.twitter.com/8cUnGDsLMI— ShrimpApplePro ? ずっと真夜中でいいのに (@VNchocoTaco) September 12, 2024
Previous rumors had suggested that the 2024 lineup would support faster charging, but Apple didn’t say anything about it during Monday’s keynote. However, Apple officials did mention that MagSafe technology can now deliver up to 25W when paired with a compatible adapter.
This lack of detail isn’t really surprising, as Apple has typically avoided commenting on wired charging speeds. For example, while iPhones have been capable of charging at more than 25W for several years, Apple has only officially promoted fast charging with a 20W USB-C adapter. To take advantage of 45W charging, you’ll obviously need a compatible power adapter like the one fromAmazon Basics at €22.
Apple introduced the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro earlier this week, with pre-orders opening tomorrow, Friday. Shipments will begin on September 20.
If you missed the iPhone 16 reveal, these new phones offer several upgrades, including a new smart physical camera button, larger screens on the Pro models, and an A18 chip specifically designed for AI.
