Apple is preparing a major change next year with a new, more than interesting iPhone 17 Air
For a few weeks now, we have been hearing rumors of a remodeling of the iPhone 17 range. There is talk of a new model with a different, thinner design and that would do without some functions, such as the double rear camera, but that It would be much more attractive in terms of design. Something completely new.
Apple does not seem happy with the performance of the iPhone 14 Plus and iPhone 15 Plus, which have always been the least-selling model of their generation, and looks for a major change with a new iPhone 17 Air.
iPhone 17 Air will be a new change in Apple’s strategy
Apple renewed its iPhone range in 2020 by introducing four different models iPhone 12, including a mini model for those who wanted a compact smartphone with good specifications. The idea did not catch on too much and Apple opted, two years later, for the opposite.
Many said that the iPhone mini had not been successful because of its small size, so Apple decided to launch a large-size model, the same size as the Pro Max. But after two years, it seems that the idea has not convinced users either.
Therefore, Apple is going to change its strategy with this fourth iPhone model, opting for something completely different. An iPhone that will inaugurate a category that Apple has been exploiting for years in the Mac and the iPad.
And that model will be the iPhone 17 Air. We are looking at a device that will mainly stand out for having an extremely thin design and a screen size somewhat smaller than the Plus model. An iPhone that sits between the iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Pro but that offers something unique and that Mark Gurman recently spoke.
Next year, Apple will try its hand at this fourth-model concept again. The focus this time: a much thinner design. The idea is to create an “Air” version of the iPhone of some kind, something that sits between the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro. The most apt comparison is probably to the original MacBook Air from over a decade ago, which fell somewhere between the regular MacBook and the MacBook Pro.
This could be a perfect iPhone for those users looking for something more than the entry-level iPhone but that does not need the power and specifications of the iPhone Pro. A model that will stand out for its design, although it will have practically the same specifications as an iPhone 17.
The strategy is risky, but considering the low sales of the current Plus models, it may be very successful. Gurman assures that this model, together with the launch of the iPhone SE 4, will make sales rise again considerably late 2025/early 2026.
It is expected that this iPhone 17 Air is the thinnest iPhone Apple has ever released, with a screen of approximately 6.6 inches, a configuration with a single 48-megapixel rear camera and an aluminum chassis. A device that could be a success, although everything will depend on the price. It has been rumored that it would be more expensive than the iPhone 17 Pro Max.
