We are about to meet the iPhone 16 at the next keynote in September, and rumors are starting to focus on the next generation, the iPhone 17. And it is that an iPhone is not developed in a single year, and Apple’s schedule is always planned several years in advance. Apparently, the first rumors about the iPhone 17 point to a very disruptive generation, and some suggest that the leap will be similar to that of the iPhone X.
Over the past few months, we’ve read a lot about the so-called iPhone 17 Slim, a new and different model that does not exist until nowRumors now suggest that this next iPhone could be called the iPhone Air, following the same path we have with the iPad or Macs.
A mysterious iPhone Air model between the Pro and the normal model
Rumors about the features of the iPhone Air indicate that it would have some features below the iPhone Probut it would be higher in price than the entry-level iPhones, that is, the iPhone 17. From the beginning, it seemed a little strange that a model had the same price as an iPhone Pro and features below it, but With the name iPhone Air, all the pieces start to fall into place.
Do you remember the iPhone 12 or 13 mini? Apple tried its luck with these two phonesand a couple of generations later it jumped to the Plus model. It seems that with the iPhone 17, the Plus model will disappear and there will be three different iPhone ranges:
- iPhone 17
- iPhone Air
- iPhone 17 Pro
Who would be targeting the iPhone Air?
The iPhone Air or iPhone 17 Air would have some features that it will share with the iPhone 17 and others with the iPhone 17 Pro. A mid-range model for those who want an extremely thin iPhone and with a groundbreaking design. We have seen that it is possible with the iPad Pro M4, and Apple wants to make all its products as thin as possible.

These would be the main features according to the rumors. As you can see, the price of the iPhone Air would be the highest of the three, while the Hardware features would be similar to those of the iPhone 17However, the thin, slim design in an all-screen concept would come very close to what Apple has always wanted to achieve with the iPhone.
Since the iPhone X, Apple has sought to create a iPhone that is just a screen. It started with slim bezels and the notch with Face ID, and we continued to slim them down with Dynamic Island. With the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro, a larger display and thinner edges are expected. The iPhone 17 Slim could mark a big step forward, possibly with a smaller Dynamic Island or under-display cameras and sensors. An ultra-thin and powerful iPhone, supported by the efficiency of Apple Silicon and cameras enhanced by Apple Intelligence, it would be the true iPhone of the future.
This iPhone Air would be aimed at people who value design and comfort over a slightly more powerful processor. Something similar happens with the MacBook Pro (M3 Pro chip) and MacBook Air (M2/M3 chip). In the case of the MacBook Air, it is indeed a cheaper device, but that was not always the case. In fact, if some of us remember correctly, there was a very thin MacBook model with a higher price than the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air of the time.
While the rest of the companies are developing their foldable smartphones, Apple would surprise in 2026 with the iPhone Air. This new smartphone would not only mark a before and after in the telephone market, but would set a new standard in design and user experience. Unlike Xiaomi’s “Lite” range, which also focuses on design but significantly sacrifices features compared to its top models, the iPhone Air would combine an ultra-thin design without compromising performance. Apple would thus create a new high-end model in which design would be the absolute protagonist, redefining what a premium smartphone means and changing current market expectations.
