Finding out that there is a new robot vacuum cleaner on the market should not be cause for applause – after all, almost all of them look alike, right? – but when we find a qualitative leap like the one that iRobot has found his Roomba j9+ things change quite a bit. And the leader in sales of this equipment in Spain has surprised us all with the presentation of a new model that combines the best in terms of cleanliness with an impeccable design thanks to a charging station that leaves no one indifferent.
Roomba Combo j9+, the new flagship is going strong
Pretty, smarter than ever and able to rub. That could be a good summary of what stands out most in the new Roomba Combo j9+, the robot vacuum cleaner with which iRobot wants to demonstrate that there is no manufacturer capable of overshadowing it. We will have to test it in depth to be able to ensure this 100%, but at least our first contact with the team has been very satisfactory and it has left us wanting to continue cleaning (or rather, scheduling cleanings) at home.
The j9+ thus opens a new chapter within the Roomba range with a team whose charging base (much of the appeal is here) now has self-emptying for dust as well as automatic refilling and emptying of water. Not only that. The station continues the design line of the beautiful j7+ but raising the stakes a little more and now offers a piece that acts as a side table with a very elegant wooden surface. The trick to achieve this is that access to the base tanks is not from above, but from the side, with a small door that when opened reveals even a compartment to store a spare cloth and some other small utensils.
It is without a doubt the jewel in the crown of a robot that claims to clean better than ever. It boasts a 4-phase cleaning system, double rubber brushes and having a mop that rises (yes, just like the j7+ robot did) on top so that it never rubs against any carpet. iRobot gives special importance to the latter, emphasizing that we are not usually aware of the dirt that we can carry from one side of the house to the other and leave on the carpets with current designs, whose elevation, of just a few millimeters, is usually not enough .
To work efficiently, the Combo j9+ (which, by the way, also has its version without a floor scrubber, the j9+) relies on iRobot OS 7.0, the new update of your operating system. In it we can find even faster and more effective mapping than before, as well as the incorporation of two key technologies or functions: Dirt Detective and SmartScrub.
Dirt Detective wears the automation to a new level, planning cleanings better than ever. And this technology is capable of detecting which rooms require more cleaning based on when was the last time you cleaned them, changing its working mode depending on the room and the type of floor and even organizing the different corners as it sees fit. of the house depending on the dirt, leaving the bathroom last so as not to “carry” that dirt to other parts of the home.
As for SmartScrub, it is the rub lifelong. And now you can indicate in which rooms you want the robot to do a deeper cleaning, moving back and forth with constant downward pressure – you have a short GIF below these lines. Although we have been able to see a demonstration of how it performs this movement, we also left this function in quarantine until you try it at home to see if it is as efficient as it promises. We don’t lack desire.
