Many brands compete with each other with their smart watches. More and more companies are entering this market due to the popularity of this kind of device, causing some to gradually become ostracized. This is the case of Amazfit watches, which are being seen surpassed by all new models that are being announced recently.
Amazfit has been one of the most famous smartwatch brands since its birth due to the potential of its models and the wide variety of options within its catalogue, from cheaper alternatives to true prodigies of smartwatches. This has been the case for a long time, although there is one factor that Amazfit is facing and that is not easy to overcome if it does not take measures as soon as possible.
The absence of Wear OS takes its toll
The great barrier that Amazfit is fighting against and which is present in practically all of its competitors is the presence of Wear OS in its watches. The operating system developed by Google grants access to Play Store applications, as well as to its own services such as Maps, Wallet, Gmail, Keep… This is combined with the download of all kinds of apps, including WhatsApp to reply to messages and send audio notes.
Amazfit watches allow the installation of third-party applications, although they are not those of the Play Store and there is not as much variety. For example, WhatsApp and Spotify are not available, which limits the use of the devices, turning them into just a normal smartwatch with calls (something that is becoming more and more conventional), activity tracking and notification management. This is due to a price that usually does not fall below 100 euros except in exceptional cases and starting at this price there are already many models that have Wear OS, so it doesn’t make sense to buy an Amazfit.
Many competitors for Amazfit
A clear example is that this year they have been presented new smart watches in Spain: Xiaomi Watch 2, Xiaomi Watch 2 Pro, OPPO Watch X, OnePlus Watch 2, OnePlus Watch 2R, Samsung Galaxy Watch7…
All of them come with Wear OS installed and you can find them for 150 euros and up. They are a bit more expensive than the Amazfit models, but for the small difference it is worth spending a little more and enjoying more advantages.
Also, there are some other Amazfit smartwatch that exceeds that figure and even matches the latest releases from brands like Samsung. This with all the imbalance in performance that they entail. I used to be a fan of the Chinese brand’s smartwatches, but it’s clear that they’re slowly coming to an end.
Mainly because their devices are unable to compete with other brands in terms of functionality, which means you’ll be paying more for less. The only chance for Amazfit to turn things around is to go for Wear OS and give up its own operating system, although it’s not as simple as it seems, as a middle ground must be found with Google and its services.
