The Chinese manufacturer Xpeng has announced three new countries in which it will deploy from 2024 on the European market, including France. Do we charge at 480 KW? Not so sure…
Perhaps you have opted for a holiday in Scandinavia this summer? If this is not the case, you would have been well advised to do so to escape the heat waves that we have experienced. But since we’re not here to talk about the weather, your trip to northern Europe would also have been an opportunity to come across cars that we don’t see back home.
Sweden, Norway and Denmark, ahead of the rest of Europe in terms of electricity, are indeed often chosen by new manufacturers, especially the Chinese, as a gateway to the Old Continent.
This is how the Xpeng brand launched in Europe in 2021, launching its P7 sedan and then its G9 SUV near Oslo. Before expanding the following year to Sweden, Denmark and the Netherlands. And the good news is that the expansion doesn’t stop there. At the Munich 2023 show, the manufacturer from Canton announced three new destinations: Germany, the United Kingdom and… France!
Super fast charging
Why is this good news? Quite simply because Xpeng is particularly known as the manufacturer that allows you to recharge your batteries in just 15 minutes from 10 to 80%. In any case, this is what the Xpeng G9 offers, an imposing SUV already discovered almost a year ago, and which is equipped with 800-volt charging technology.
But since then, Xpeng has done even better with a slightly smaller SUV, positioned opposite Tesla’s Model Y, and which has something to make the latter blush with its charging speed: 480 kW. This is almost double what the American SUV offers (250 kW). Also equipped with an 800-volt architecture (like its big brother, not like the Tesla), the Xpeng G6 can theoretically recover up to 300 km in 10 minutes, which is the equivalent of 10% to 50% of battery.
But we say well theoretically, because with us, the G6 would not be able to recharge as quickly, the fastest terminals in our regions do not exceed 350 kW. But at home in China, Xpeng has unveiled terminals developing 480 kW and 670 A.
Which models in France?
As you will have understood, the Xpengs that will arrive on the French market will probably not be able to exploit their full charging potential. But on this subject, with which models does the Chinese manufacturer intend to conquer the hearts of French buyers?
The president of Xpeng Brian Gu specified at the IAA show in Munich that three models will arrive on our roads: the imposing G9 SUV, the P7 sedan and the G6 SUV. On the other hand, for the moment, there is no question of the P5, whose size is closer to the Tesla Model 3. The arrival of these three models is scheduled for 2024.
